Quote:I played this arc today and I loved it as well. At one point I laughed so hard I nearly spit out my coffee. That I kind of expected, but what I didn't expect was the end. I am not a huge fan of fighting bosses but just like Clave, I rushed from boss to boss to hear the next part of the story.1. Post the ID of a 4-star rated arc by another MA author who has posted on this forum in the the last 30 days.[/I]
The Echo by MrCaptainMan, ID#1688: I found the pathos in this arc to be well worth the chained boss fights that a few have grumbled about. Play this arc and soon you'll find yourself rushing to the next boss to get that next part of the the story. I don't play MA arcs even a quarter as much as I'd like to so who knows what I've missed, but the story behind this one is one of the very few that's really stuck with me.
This arc really touched me. Great job! -
Quote:I completely agree that Talos Vice is an excellent arc. In fact it is one of my favorite arcs. However, in going through the list of arcs, I noticed that it is currently a 5 star arc, sitting on page 3 with 154 plays, so I hope it will get the attention it deserves.Arc #338380, "Talos Vice" by @PW (Police Woman). A great (albeit short) arc, especially if you're leveling up a newbie and looking for alternate content.
Since the idea of this thread is to help us find and promote arcs that are sitting in the 4 star black hole, I ask that people do not submit current 5 star arcs to this thread. I do know that at one time Talos Vice was at 4 stars, and so since I did not check it before posting for now it will stay on the list.
I have personally experienced with my own arc that it is possible to bounce back and forth bewteen 4 and 5 stars and if a 4 star arc supported here becomes 5, it does not need to be immediately withdrawn from this thread because the next day it may be back in the 4 star black hole.
That being said, I am going to leave it up to the author of the arc to decide if and when his or her 5 star arc should be withdrawn from this list. At that time, I will move it to my Must Play/Fun Arcs thread and allow the author to suggest another of his or her current 4 star arcs to be put in its place on this thread. -
Quote:The intent is not to be exclusionary. In fact, it is quite the opposite. My hope is that people will find gems written by people who have not posted on this forum. When they do, they should PM the author and let them know about this forum. The author only needs to post his or her arc in the announce the arc thread or make any other post on the forum and then his or her arc can be posted here.I think that's actually a smidge exclusionary though I know you don't mean it that way. There's a number of hidden gems in the MA from people who don't check the forums at all. I'd have to say the main problem is the search engine which winds up hiding a lot of arcs.
For me this is a win/win. We get another great arc to play and the author is made aware of the forum. It took me a long time to find out about it and I wish I had found out sooner.
I also want to be sure that the gems posted here are gems by authors who are still playing the game. This thread is to help encourage and support current MA authors. I am sure there are many great arcs out there by people who no longer play and while we may enjoy them, our feedback won't help the authors.
My hope is that this thread helps us overcome the black hole of 4 star arcs and allows deserving authors to get feedback and plays. -
Quote:As usual, I was confusing, so I clarified my initial post. Clave, pick an arc of another MA author with a 4 star rated arc that you would like to support and also tell me which of your 4 star arcs you would like to promote and I will update this first post with both.Every one of my arcs in my sig is lost in the "4-star haze", except for A Wake For Dead 6, which is at five stars but only has 4 plays.
I imagine everyone here is familiar with one or two of them as they've been in a number of the player-run contests. I've never won those so I feel a little cheesy tossing them out again, but there you go; gotta hustle for plays when you're at the 4-star level, right? So they're "worth nominating, never a winner" - pretty much seems to define what you're after.Think of the movies that didn't win best picture at the Oscars: chances are there's still something there you might enjoy.
(I think most of them will suffer the XP hit that's current on live though, so it might be worth waiting until that's dealt with, if that's a concern.)
Sorry for the confusion and thanks so much for posting in this thread. -

Quote:Erm, did you mean 'forum section' instead of 'thread'? Cause, for example, Wrong Number hasn't posted in this thread, though you're recommending his arc. And you suggested that we get authors to post in the 'announce your arc' thread, not this one....?
As to point your first point, you are right thank you. I meant people who have posted in the forum.
As to your second point what I meant was if you find a story arc that you would like to post in this thread from an author who had not posted on this forum, you should PM the author and suggest that he or she post the arc in the thread entitled "Live: Announce You Latest Creation". This way that person is made aware of this forum.
After they have posted in this forum, then you can post their arc to this thread.
Sorry for the confusion and thank you for the clarification -
I will kick this off with one of my favorite "Excellent Arcs":
Death to Disco
ID: 84420
Author: @Wrong Number
I picked this arc to kick off this thread because the detail and crafting that went into the customs in this arc is amazing and because every time I play the arc I smile.
My arc that I would like played is:
Suppression
ID: 374481
Author: @Gypsy Storm
It is my tribute to the Wizard of Oz CoH style. NOTE: At the moment the XP in mission one is low due to the latest patch. -
There are so many excellent arcs out there that never get played. By excellent, I mean 4 star arcs. If you read the word that goes with 4 stars, it says excellent. We should all be happy to have arcs that people rate as excellent, but sadly as the current MA system stands these "excellent" arcs only get played if we ask people to play them.
I have been thinking of a way to get plays for our 4 star arcs and came up with the idea of starting this thread.
Here are the rules:
You post an arc from an active MA author that is currently rated 4 stars. The author must be an active player. This is so we are supporting arcs of people who still care about MA and who our support and feedback will mean something to. It can be a current poster on this board, someone you know, or someone who responds to an in-game PM. It needs to be an arc that you have played and have rated 4 or 5 stars. At that same time you may post one of your own arcs if you choose. It also must be rated 4 stars.
If you find a 4 star arc that you want in this thread from an author who has not posted here, PM the author and let them know about this message board. This way, maybe we can grow this message board community at the same time as getting plays for excellent arcs.
In your post give the arc ID, author and why you liked it.
Please post only arcs that are currently rated 4 stars. If an arc that was rated 4 stars at the time of submission becomes 5 stars, it may remain on the list until the author requests it be removed (this is because arcs can easily be 4 one day, 5 the next, and then back to 4). At the time that an author requests a 5 star arc be removed, he or she can replace it with any of his or her 4 star arcs.
If you cannot find 4 star arc from a current author that you want to recommend, but want to submit a 4 star arc of your own, you can play an arc on the list that you have not played yet. After playing it, PM the author with some in game feedback. Then post on this thread which arc you played and what you liked best about the arc. In that post you can submit your own 4 star arc to the thread.
In Summary:
1. Post the ID of a 4-star rated arc by another current MA author.
2. If you like, you may also post the arc ID of one of your 4 star rated arcs that you would like people to play.
OR
1. Play an arc on this thread that you have not yet played and provide in-game feedback to the author.
2. Post on this thread the name and ID of the arc you played and what you liked best about it and in that post submit your own 4 star arc to the thread.
As time permits, I will update this post with a list of arc IDs.

Per my earlier post - My arc Suppression was sitting at 5 stars and on the bottom of page 3. It now gives only 2 XP per kill because of this fix.
While I was on playing, I received 3 stars with no comment at all. Perhaps due to almost no XP, perhaps to make a spot for a farm which is now sitting at the bottom of page 3, or perhaps because some one does not care for a fairy tale like story.
I should have put a warning in this arc not to play it for now as I thought about doing in case the 3 stars was for lack of XP, but it's too late now. Like many others I am kind of at the point of giving up in MA.
I am once again asking that this "fix" be pulled. It isn't fair to punish people who have worked for months on arcs using MA for its intended purpose in an attempt to punish exploiters. People who cheat the system to level are not hurting us. While I don't agree with it, it does no harm to me. This "fix" does. -
Thank you for your post and for starting this thread.
I did not have time to read all the posts, so I don't know if this has already been said.
My first request is that you back out the "fix". People who want to exploit will no doubt find ways to do so. This punishes legitimate story arcs was too much.
As an example, my arc Suppression which I wrote for the 2nd challenge has a first mission which is populated with groups of ally hostages surrounded by ally groups. Each group is engaged in various activities. They are there purely for flavor.
I tested this on a level 7 against level 7 minions, I got 2 xp per kill. I ran out to Atlas and could only quickly find a level 6 minion. That gave me 18 xp. If this arc wasn't level 5-15 this wouldn't be so upsetting, but the audience for this arc is definately going to want to level.
Currently this arc is sitting at 5 stars, which raises another issue I have had for a long time. Any time my arc appears on page 3, it gets hit with 1 star ratings with no comment. I am almost positive, that these hits come from farm creaters who want their arcs to bump up and get played. I actually have no problem with non-exploitive farmers making and playing their farms because every paying customer should be free to enjoy the game as he or she sees fit so long as they don't harm anyone else. I DO have a huge problem with someone 1 star rating an arc to cause it to fall back so their arc can pop up and get played. This "fix" makes it worse. Someone who enters my arc and in mission one gets a whopping 2 xp per kill my get legitimately annoyed and 1 star it.
So my next suggestion is that when you one star an arc you should get a warning and that the author of the arc should be notified they have received a 1 star rating (no need to disclose by who). I then think if the author is sure this is a griefing the offense should be reportable. It is extremely unfair that good stories can be griefed in this manner with no recourse. To me this is way worse than any exploits.
My third suggestion is to provide us with a mechanismn to add groups of people to our arcs for flavor. They should be able to be in groups, performing actions and have dialog. This would solve lots of issues for me above and beyond the issue created by this "fix".
As you may have noticed, I am kind of wordy, so in summary I suggest the following:
1. Back out this fix
2. Provide a mechanism for us to report 1 star grief ratings
3. Provide a mechanism to populate our arcs with people who can have emotes and dialog.
Thanks so much for the attention you have given MA and for giving us a forum to voice our opinions. -
I played your arc "Attack of the 50 Foot Villain". It was tons of fun and very creative. For anyone who has not played and wants a really fun one mission arc, I highly recommend it.
I could not find a thread for it so I posted here.
In return, I would like you to review a my new version of The Greater Good. I am not sure if you ever reviewed the previous version. I couldn't find it in your thread. This arc was written for the first Aeon challange, and as such had an extremely limited audience that might enjoy it. Because of that I decided to take my framework and redo it in a way that I hope more people might enjoy. It could really use your input.
It is not the one in my signature. When you get a chance, please review my new arc:
The Greater Good

Quote:Thank you Fred. I actually tried spaces before, which seemed to work but broke after I saved it. Spaces after does the trick. You can call one of them "Safe" and the rest "Safe " with a space after the word. That's different enough for the MA but won't look different in the mission. You can add as many spaces as you want to create more groups.
-
I am reworking this arc based on comments from you and some other reviewers and I have a question on one of your comments. See below:
Quote:As an aside, when you label your safes, we see that. All three can have the same name, it's just that the individual objectives (Collection: Safe etc) would have to have different names. And "safe 3" or "safe with a note" look a bit odd.
Thanks -
Thanks for the review and for playing my arc.
Quote:Honestly, I wasn't coming into this expecting an homage, and that's what I got. That stole a lot of fun out of it, because I enjoy seeing new stories unfold before me, not stories I've known all my life.
Quote:That aside, it was fun enough for what it was, although the sheer randomness of the Witch's minions was confusing. I would've thought, perhaps make a custom group with monkey-like creatures, for her winged monkeys? Not sure how complex that would've been, but it would've added to the overall feel and to the fun factor.
Quote:Overall:: * * * *
Were I rating this as I normally would, this would've likely gotten a lower score. However, since I decided to rate this as a homage rather than a unique story, 4 stars it shall be.
Add to it. Evolve it into a story that's truly yours. I've been quoted, many MANY times, as saying that there's only so many great ideas in the world, and they've all been used. However, if you take great elements, and combine them in new and interesting ways, it's still possible to make a great story that's all your own..
This was intended as an homage and so as far as that goes it is truly mine and I want to keep it as such.
I definitely want to add winged monkeys, but I don't think I have space.
Thanks again for the review -
I have an arc that fits most of what you are looking for. The info is:
In Pursuit of Liberty - 344916 by @Gypsy Rose
I would love for your SG to play it and give me some feedback. -
I created a tribute arc to the Wizard of Oz.
I takes the basic OZ story and re-invents it CoH style.
It is callled Supression and the arc ID is 374481 with an author of @Gypsy Rose.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. -
I have another arc for you.
Suppression - 374481 - @Gypsy Rose

Glaziusf - Thank you for your input and the detailed review.
You have confirmed what I already knew and so I plan to rework this arc into something that hopefully more people can enjoy.
Hopefully when I have done that you can relook at it and see if you feel it is any better. -
I played Axis and Allies, the only one of your arcs I had not played. You need to write another one fast so I can seek more reviews from you.
I put off playing this because I am not a big fan of war stories, but I am really glad I played it. While this arc was not as fun as some of your others, in some ways it may be your best. The choice of maps, the mood you set and the attention to detail was amazing!
And what do I ask you to play in return? Ironically, my least serious arc:
Don't Freak

Though this arc on the surface may seem silly, it is not all fluff. I used it to make fun of what to me is a serious issue. I work in IT and many of my co-workers have lost jobs due to outsourcing. The souvenir touches on this.
As an aside, the bios of the custom enemies are based on composites of actual people I have worked with.
Enjoy (I hope)

This arc was really well done.
The map choices were perfect and the attention to detail was amazing.
I loved how you placed the player's name in the clues.
I would call the arc masterful. -
I just added my Greater Good arc to Mission Review:
The Greater Good - 350877 - @Gypsy Rose
I would really appreciate your input on this arc. It was written for Dr. Aeon's challenge and so it has your hero doing evil for the greater good. Because of this, I think it is an arc that few MA players will enjoy. However I spent months working on it. If I am going to keep the arc, there are a few changes I would make, but I am really not sure that given the topic it is worth keeping.
I am not sure it is possible, but if you could put aside your dislike of your hero being hijacked when you rate that would be helpful.
Also, I am seriously considering unpublishing this arc given the topic, but I have been toying with the idea of changing it so that you the hero, don't actually perform evil in the end. Any input/suggestions on morphing this arc into something more people would enjoy would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
