  1. It seems clear to me that interest in MA is at a low point right now.

You can tell just by looking at this message board forum. This is the only thread on this forum that seems to be really active at this time.

My 5 star arc with 46 plays has gotten no plays in weeks. In fact the only plays any of my arcs have gotten in a very long time are from 2 in game friends and PW because I asked for a review.

At the moment I have no motivation to update any of my arcs because I don't have any idea what sort of fix is coming or even for sure when it will be implemented.

Where I work as a software developer, if there is ever a fix that breaks things it is backed out. I strongly feel that the recent fix should be backed out because it hurts the people who care about MA. Exploiters will always find ways to exploit and it seems the wrong people have been hurt by the fix.

I also strongly agree with a purge of arcs that have not been published/republished in say 90 days. Of course devs choice/HOF arcs would be excluded and perhaps even 5 star arcs with more than some fixed number of plays (if the number is high enough it would be easy to check if they are legit).

It is very sad to me that a tool with such great potential to add so much to the game is in the state that it is in now. I hope something is done soon.
  2. PW - Thanks so much for taking the time to review my Greater Good arc.

Since the last mission is heavily impacted by the last MA patch, I will probably wait and see what is done to fix the fix before I make too many modifications.

As always you have provided me with lots of useful input, which I will use when I make my updates.

    Thanks

It's a great arc. Keep it in the list until you are confident it will stay at 5 stars. At that time you can pick another of your 4 star arcs to replace it.

    Today I played "Blowback", #4643.

This arc was very well written, full of detail and at a perfect play level for me.

What I liked best was the style of writing, which kept my interest all the way through. It evokes emotion without being over the top.

NOTE: I played on a 50, so I am not sure, but it does seem to be impacted by the "fix" in some of the missions at least. For me it was still definitely worth playing.

Based on my experience, I needed to edit the arc on the computer where I made the changes to the customs for the changes to impact a published arc. If I do not edit the arc, there seems to be no effect.

As a warning, if you edit an arc on a computer that does not have the latest customs, changes may be lost or wiped out.

    I hope this helps.
  6. I made several updates to this arc thanks to the additional space that came with i17.

    - I added some explanation as to how the Wicked One was controlling the Brood

    - I added a clue following the defeat of the Wizard

    - Most importantly, I add Winged Monkeys. I decided not to replace the Brood and per MCM's suggestion I am using them as the Wicked One's personal body guards. In addition, in keeping with the movie, I am using them as scouts. So I added them as patrols in missions 1, 2, and 3. I placed 2 patrols in mission 1, and 1 in 2 and 3. I would appreciate input as to whether or not I should add more patrols.

As always, any input would be appreciated

NOTE: The XP in mission 1 is still badly hit by the "fix", but I am leaving it as is, until the devs address the permanent solution.
  7. My Winged Monkeys lost their tails. I think all tails might be lost. I was able to fix this by going in and selecting a movable tail.

    I want to add

    Holding Down the Fort
    ID: 379065
    by LaserJesus

This arc was so much fun. It kept me wanting to play all the way through. It was full of details and there were lots of things added to make the story come alive.
  9. I was able to create a winged monkey. I am not completely happy with how it looks, but I think it is close enough....

So I would like some input. First of all, I assume winged monkeys should fly. Will this make them too difficult for level 5-15 heroes?

Also, do you have any powerset suggestions? I would like to create at least 2 minions, a lt and a boss. I might make 3 minions, 2 lts and a boss.

Should I replace my Brood with winged monkeys or should I modify the Brood to include winged monkeys, perhaps removing some members that don't make sense?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I agree with your recommendation of "Mercytown". It is great!

This arc is so well done. It is filled with details and has a good story. What I love best about it, is that it is visually stunning. I felt like I was in a whole new world created by the author.

    Great job!

Someone asked me if they could submit one of their own 4 star arcs to the list even if they could not find a 4 star arc by an active player that they wanted to recommend. This got me thinking.

My motivation for creating the thread was to help us find great 4 star arcs to play and to help authors of 4 star arcs get feedback and plays for their arcs. So I decided to add another option that allows authors to submit their own 4 star arcs.

Play an arc on the list that you have not played yet. After playing it, PM the author with some in game feedback. Then post on this thread which arc you played and what you liked best about the arc. In that post you can submit your own 4 star arc to the thread.

I created this list as a way to help us find and play arcs and I am very glad to have your arc in the list.

You have @Zamuel to thank you for submitting it. I sent you the PM so you would know your arc was here.

If you know of any arcs that fit the criteria stated in the first post, you can post them here and they will be added to the list.

I look forward to playing the ones listed that I haven't played yet.

I have been thinking a lot about this and I have modified the rules. The reason why I had originally specified that the arc must be from current posters on this board was to be sure that the support and feedback went to someone who is around to appreciate and enjoy it, not because I felt only people who post on the board deserve support.

So, I changed the initial post to state that the arc can be from any current MA author. If you are sure the author is currently active, you can suggest his or her arc even if he or she has never posted on a message board. It would be great if you let non-posting authors know about this forum. I found the support and help I got here extremely valuable.

I hope this thread gives us a way to find and play excellent arcs and provide feedback to people who really care.

The arc isn't going to be ruined by the fix; I can easily alter the ending slightly to adjust it to a more 'normal' climax.

However, since quite a few Players have commented specifically on the ending and how cool it is, it's likely in my opinion that it has played a part in the votes the arc gleaned for this.

I don't think it's fair to keep the award since I have to change an element of it which might have been crucial to my win. If my arc's lead had been massive, maybe I could live with it lol, but since it was so close, I think it should be given to the runner up.

    Eco.
That's really sweet, but your arc is tons of fun even without that.

Keep your win. You earned it.

Yes but that's not it this time. It was changed and working for a while. What I believe happened is that I edited this arc on my laptop which does not have the customs with bios. For some reason, even though I am very careful never to save when I edit on my laptop, this caused the loss.

So live and learn. Apparently, even if you do not save, you should never edit your arcs on a PC where you don't have the customs saved.

    Thanks for your support

    Below are some brief responses.

    Quote:
Wow. I'm not going to hold this against you, but all the allies in this mission are pushing me down to like 2 XP a minion. The setpieces are kinda interesting for what that's worth.
Yup and they aren't even there as allies.

    ---
    Quote:
15 XP per minion in the next mission. The ally penalty can get that bad? Crazy.
I believe this mission has no allies, so perhaps that's the normal XP?

    Quote:
The pamphlet doesn't seem like much of a clue in its own right. Maybe if the language was more generic-yet-relevant. "Feeling powerless? Like something's missing in your life?"
The pamphlet was there because the Wizard of OZ in the book and the movie in Kansas is Professor Marvel and to give you a clue that he is involved. If I ever get motivated to work on arcs, I will think of how to change this.

    Quote:
Man. It seems like there are silent ambushes in this next mission, triggered by examining the glowies, if these neat rows of Circle that sprint out and fire at me are any indication.

That's a nasty trick to pull. Doubly nasty for the single-digit characters who are supposed to be playing this arc.
There are NO ambushes in the mission at all. I have no idea how or why this happened to you.

    Quote:
Hmm. Mission complete, but I don't seem to have any actual clues, just this guy's promise in dialogue to help.
You are the 2nd to mention this so maybe one day I will add one here. Right now I am feeling extremely demotivated.

    Quote:
I really don't get the martial arts on the boss here. If you wanted a melee set Dark Melee would probably make more sense.
OK something is really messed up here because I changed the boss per LJs suggesion to fire and gravity I believe.

    Quote:
Design - ***. I have to level with you: I'm not sure why there are Munchkins in the first mission. There are patrols and allied hostage groups and the occasional battle, but it doesn't seem like they add very much, especially since they don't show up again.
They are there for flavor to simulate Munchkins. They are not there as allies at all. The patrol is for dialog only. They are not supposed to fight but if hostiles get near them they will. If I could have made them people, I would have. The XP nerf on these non-allies leaves me very de-motivated in general and on this arc in particular.

    Quote:
I'm also a little clueless as to why The Brood has the weird mix of enemies it does. Okay, so you've got slime monsters and rock monsters and lava monsters and snake monsters and spider... robots... and the Clockwork, and human Arachnos soldiers?
The mix is to show the Wicked One's power to collect and control evil and to give a lowbie player a mixed play experience. I would have made flying monkeys if I had space. The Clockwork are there for the ones that fly (the closest I could get to winged monkeys).

    Quote:
Gameplay - ****. Aside from what I suspect are silent ambushes in the fourth mission, pretty straightforward fights against canon groups.
There were no ambushes in that mission.

    Quote:
Detail - ***. The story may not bring up elements of Oz just for the sake of doing so, but I can't see any other reason for the Munchkin knockoffs in the first mission. I mean, there are already little humanoids in Croatoa who have an established relationship to the Tuatha and exist at all levels. And while the Red Caps probably wouldn't ordinarily be allied, maybe they're more worried that the Tuatha are leaving their control and joining the WWW than about some lowbie hero.
For me they are key to the arc. They attempt to match the beginning of the Wizard of OZ.

    Quote:
The Brood also retain their stock descriptions, or at least every member I checked did. I don't know how you are for space, but especially for such a disparate group of enemies it's not easy to come up with a unifying theme or motivation looking just at canon names and canon descriptions.
I gave each a unique description before the arc was even entered in the contest when PW pointed this out to me. Another change lost . UPDATE: I just edited, made no change and republished and the custom descriptions came back.

    Quote:
Overall - ***. There was a small hiccup in the story, but most of this is over the character of the opposition. The Brood are the WWW's inner circle, but what are its members supposed to represent? Actual canon enemies she's converted or her own creations? And what part in her plans do the Tuatha, Winter Horde, and Spectral Pirates play? Do they just happen to be in the same place at the same time or is there something more going on?
The Tuatha are just in their own habitat. No plot element intended. The Winter Horde are there because they represent coldness of heart, the Spectral Pirates because they represent fear. As to the Brood, some better explanation is needed as I believe you are the 4th person to mention something like this about them.

Honestly at the moment I am really not motivated much to fix up arcs. This arc took months of work overall and the XP hit it took in mission 1 is insane. Especially because the Minikins are not there as allies.

Thanks for taking the time to review and provide detailed comments.
