    New in town...

I'm on Infinity also. The villain side (commonly referred to as the red side) is less populated than the hero (blue) side for various reasons, but I think it comes down to people like the flow of the blue side more. Personally I jump back and forth but usually have to solo much more on the red side. Plus with school going on, holidays, and new MMOs running, the population has dipped a bit lately. Also, the last issue they changed the way the teaming sk/lk system worked which made it easier to form teams so a lot of people are running more missions and aren't in the main world as much. I admit because of work I haven't been on as much but should be on some this weekend and will probably be on my mastermind. Look for the global name @aquajaws and hit me up. I'm always willing to team up.
  2. To the OP, if you're really concerned with it, but the game is playing fine for you as is right now, the best advice would be to wait until official specs and recommendations are released by the studio as the Ultra Mode release gets closer (rumors are that it MAY be coming before Going Rogue, but I think thats just speculation at the moment). You don't want to go get a new card now that you think can handle the game fine, but then it not be enough for Ultra Mode once it does hit and you have to spend money on yet another card, especially if you're fine with how your current card is performing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, especially if you don't know how to fix it yet.

Now...thing is...i don't think it's level based cuz i have a lvl 30 scrapper that has the same 17.something ninja run speed as the lvl 9 blaster.

So...I don't think that the AT system actually DOES have anything to do with it...or if there's even a system at all, at this point. Still trying to figure it out.
Are you taking into account set bonus movement bonuses as well as run enhancements on movement increasing powers (swift, sprint, etc) for those characters?

They COULD. But that would also require additional UI work (only primary and secondary powers are customizable in there. Support for inherent powers would have to be created in there as well). Also I'm sure some people like to be able to switch from one of the effects to the other for whatever reason. If they all went under one power, then those people couldn't do that anymore. If they do that, then the next thread will be "Why can't I customize Brawl and Rest and Taser Dart and..." and so on and so on.

Yes, I'm all for power more customization, but look at what happened with walk, which sounds like something BABs did with a little bit of extra time since a decent amount of people wanted it for a while so he put it together quickly for them. And some of the first responses were "But I wanted to walk THAT way, not THIS way!" I would rather see the epic ATs, epic pools, mastermind primaries, and power pools get customization before all that personally.
  5. Its part of her halloween costume...she's just forgotten to take it off now that the event is over
  6. There's also more to it than just running on water with super speed. I agree that it would be cool, but if you have people running on water, you also have to handle them stopping on water and standing there. What happens then, to they stand on the water or fall through into it. Then after moving again or if turn superspeed on while swimming in the water, do they stay swimming, or do they go back on top running? How would that animation look? Every one you ask will probably give a slightly different answer for their preference on these so without a lot of customization options someone isn't going to be happy with it.

Or they could just keep it as is where while in water you swim (minus a few random pools on the roman cave map and in gville) instead of a low level game engine rewrite for a RP or niche effect that really in no way affects game play except to maybe complicate it. There are many things that I, personally, would rather see them spend time implementing first.

Then again, we just got a Walk power, so who knows.
  7. Windows 7 actually handles resources a lot better than Vista. I think you can actually run it better on a machine with lower specs than Vista. If you can upgrade your RAM, its not that expensive nowadays and will only help performance. What RAM you need will be more dependent on your motherboard type. I'm not even sure of a way to easily find that in the OS. I think 2 GB will run 7, but always more RAM is more better. At this point though, DO NOT go to Vista if you can go to 7. Vista is a downgrade from XP. 7 is truly an upgrade.
  8. My biggest complaint is that it knocks out all the other enemies in the zone when the banners show up. I've only had a limited amount of time to play the last few weeks (maybe an hour every few nights or so), but it seemed that every time I was working through a story arc and a hunt would come up, of course that was right when the banners or zombies came up and all the enemies i was hunting went away. If you have a lot of time to play, its not a big deal, just do something else for that time, but when you only have an hour or so to play, that means you spend a third of your time doing the banners...and those times i happened to be playing at night in Croatoa, when there were all of about 2-3 other people playing in that zone, so no way we could actually complete the banners.
  9. While I understand the RP reasoning that PPPs and Epic ATs wouldn't be customizable, to use that as a reason not to eventually do customization of their powers is...well...cheap. Its not like they haven't tried to shoehorn a semi-logical explanation for other aspects of the game before (Dr. Brainstorm and power proliferation). Surely they can find some reason to fit with the RP elements that all the sudden instead of red lightning, there's various colors, or that now the Kheldians come in multiple colors (easy one right there: different races? it works for humans) Or just not even try and come up with it and just do it. If a player really wants to stick to the original RP rules for these characters, they have the option to NOT change THEIR colors.

Note, I'm not accusing the devs of trying to back out of it or anything of that nature, mearly stating my opinion against some of these people trying to cite roleplaying reasons for reasons why they should never be put in place. I completely understand that they (hopefully) are coming eventually when y'all have time. As a developer myself, I COMPLETELY understand the idea that quality development takes time.

Only in CoX do you have to run before you can walk.

Maybe Praetorian versions of the patrons maybe for the reformed villain archetypes. Not expecting patrons for the heroic archetypes. Or maybe they'll just do away with patrons at all and make them all ancillary pools and give us 4 new task forces.

I do support giving it a -1 Threat level, though.
Unfortunately I'm not extremely familiar with what numbers and stats get affected how with stealth and super speed or how exactly to adjust those numbers to make sure its balanced to not trivialize stealth, but was just referring to the concept of making it so if you use it, you can avoid agro if you want to sacrifice speed.

But even if it gave the exact same stats as stealth + super speed as far as perception or threat-level or whatever it is, I don't think stealth would be redundant because you can still attack and function the same under stealth while it sounds like under walk you can move forward and turn and thats about it. Sounds to me like a fair trade off balance-wise and makes it a bit more useful than to just make your character move more slowly, but its not my decision.

    COMBINED

    Powers

    General
    • Walk Power - All characters will now have access to a new inherent power -- Walk! This toggle power enables characters to move at a comfortable walking pace.
    • The “Walk” power is an Inherent toggle power given to all characters at Level 2 (like Sprint).
    • Please Note that powers or jumping (i.e. pressing the Space Bar) cannot be used while walking.
    • This power is not intended for use in combat.
    • I thought Sprint was available at level 1? Rest pops up at 2 (or maybe 3, I forget)
    • While kinda cool that we're getting this, I have a suggestion to make this less just a neat toy and more of a useful situational tool. Make it so while you're walking you don't agro NPCs, like you're stealthed with super speed, except you move very slowly. The idea is that since you're walking so slowly, you don't attract attention to yourself similar to how the NPCs walking around the city don't get attacked by every mob out there. You COULD use it to 'stealth' a mission, but it would just take you a while.
  14. Add another powers issue, many PBAOE heal powers are now rooting the toon during the animation occationally. I bugged this the other day, and posted something about it, but I guess its still in the bug pipeline. I'm seeing it on my Pain Dom mastermind, but several other controllers, corruptors, and defenders have seen it with other powersets with a PBAOE heal. Its kinda disruptive to playing since we're used to being able to move then.
  15. Nullify Pain on Masterminds is as well in PvE. Seems random to me too.
  16. Thats what I thought. I bugged it, but just wanted to make sure.
  17. Yes, they are putting in 'Ultra Mode' for the graphics update either with going rogue or I think I heard a rumor or something that they are considering it being put in a bit earlier. There's some new footage of it from hero con on you tube (don't have the link on me at the moment). I believe its the second part of the opening key note. You also see some of the Dual Pistols power set. Some of the new graphics stuff include reflections in windows and metal and water, realistic shadows, reflective costume pieces, ambient occlusion (i think thats what its called, where corners get a little more shading cause light can't get in as well, new water effects. Looked very nice and quite realistic from the preview.

EDIT, here's a thread that has a lot of info on what was announced: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=196483
  18. I don't remember it doing this before, but is Nullify Pain supposed to be rooting the character? I seem to remember being able to move normally before.

    Thanks to Kimbasinger.

But if you have some good advise atm I have 120 million and I just want to make sure that I can control the mobs without taking them out of tangibility (I hate that).

Lock em down and nuke them.
Mids will help. Also understanding how globals and procs and set bonuses work together will help you figure out the best way to taylor your build to how you want to play. Best advice would be to read the wiki article: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Invent...n_Enhancements (and the linked pages on there) on IOs and go from there. Pay attention to the The Rule of Five, Globals, and Procs.

  22. I still wish they would have just made the spines themselves a 'weapon' customization (like the axe, guns, etc) and made the poison part of the power customization. Granted, that would give up the ability to change the look of the spines for each and every power, but in my opinion, that makes more sense as well. Hopefully future customization will allow for the poison color to be customized as well because I really want my poison to be blue or black with my character.
  23. There are a lot of factors to consider. What archetype, level, power sets, enemy types. Low level, you don't have many tools at your disposal so lower settings might be needed, however a tanker or brute at level 50, depending on the power sets and the enemies you're facing you might be able to turn it all of the way up. A defender might not be able to solo at max settings, at least not quickly through the mission without dying several times. The player's skill level also is a factor. The best advice would be to do a mission at the low setting...if it gets too easy, turn it up. If its too hard, turn it down. Debt from dying isn't a big deal to get past at all at this point.

I've noticed this with previous issues where they've added new recipes. That first week or so you seem much more likely to get the new recipes as drops than later on. Don't know for sure, but maybe the code has some kind of counter to make sure enough of one drop has been dropped in a certain amount of time and it got reset with the droprate fix, so it sees that it doesn't have many purples dropped recently so it says drop more. Though this could just be a perception thing.

But the rarity of purple drops is enough that you may not get a purple drop for a long time (thought I heard the rate was 1/5000). I can only think of one that i've gotten and i've played for 2.5 years. You may also get lucky one night and get 2 or 3 in one sitting. That is unfortunately the drawback to random drops. Ya never know when it is coming.
