Yes. Banning is one thing, theft is another. Service was being provided until the rules got broken.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    What rules ?

    The unposted speed limit ?

The developers nebulous intentions for the Mission Architect ?

Above there is a guy who seems to think its alright if you have been around awhile to do these things, but if you are new its not. Well there have been one heck of a lot of people in PI just shouting LFF. I hardly see the difference

Nope, no definitive definition of exploitive here.

As far as I can tell there isn't one anywhere. That is a problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Um... Don't make and play Mieow farms or whatever the makers rename them to? Isn't that a definitive definition? And don't tell me they're not obvious. They are.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you mean rikti comm officer farms they are supposedly now working as intended.

Everything that has been cited as egregious exploitation in other threads can be done through good play.

This is the problem with defining by effect.

5k the limit you don't want make the stated limit 4.5 k

Boy that was hard to think of
  4. Hate to say it as I really love the power, but LRM is redundant with your build.

You have full Auto which does more damage and more often than LRM and without the interupt, toss in boost range just why did you want LRM again ?

Yeah it is cool to watch, but its not really practical.

Cryo freeze ray gives you a nice hold its really useful but depending on your build could probably use some serious acc and rech.

Surveilance excellent and fun. Ignite+Surveilance FTW.

The Devs aren't going to tell you specifically what exploitive behaviour is, as they do not wish to encourage it.

This is a monthly subscription MMO.
It's better for them if you spend MORE time doing tasks and levelling than spending LESS time.

If you zip to 50 inside of 2-3 hours, you'll likely raise some eyebrows.
If you play efficiently (read 'playing smart within the confines of the game and your archetype), there should not be any issues...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not to put to fine a point on it thats wrong. The problem is there is no line.

    This Post

Over on the market forum demonstrates the complete lack of a line. There has been nothing talked about as an exploit that couldn't be equaled by good play.

8 hours 1 to 50 is doable without using MA at all. Shaddowstepper cited a case where his SG did just that for a member.

Hitting the ticket cap in under 15 minutes. No problem takes nothing at all.

Destroying the 3.5 minute/merit metric. I do it and I am not particularly fast. ITFS get run in 28 minutes, posis multiboxed in an hour and small change.

Now we have the devs talking about imaginary lines and moral compasses, while rules abiding players get the boot ?

We have faulty logic, that telling people what the limits are will encourage them to exceed them ?

Most people want to play by the rules of the game, many in that group also want to know how far they can take the game. People who solo AVs, Multiple AVs, Giant Monsters, the mothership are by nature pushing the bounds. Beating up an endless swarm of bosses is not violating any kind of risk/reward ratio. What it may be is just playing the game to well.

The devs really need to clarify what their vision is, because the situation thats been created is really poisonous.

I like the game and I want it to do well so let me show you why that is wrong.

    [ QUOTE ]
The line's blurry specifically to catch people trying to play at the edge, because those people are more likely to actually exploit. People that get their accidentally may get caught in the crossfire, but it's an inevitability in any situation, even when the line is clearly defined. Because some people would get just a little over there unknowingly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This isn't catching criminals. This is tricking your customers into acts that will make them leave.

Ah HA we have caught you being to extreme in the game out you go. Does not build a customer base. They don't say oh please I'll be good let me stayyyyy. The response is FU I am out of here and I will smack talk your game everywhere I go.

Being adversarial with your customers and treating them like criminals isnt a business plan.

Yay, more nerfherding disguised by semantics.

I'mma go play That Other Game, their forums are friendlier.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This has nothing to do with asking for nerfs. It has to do with the need for guidelines on whats acceptable in the game.

This is something that pretty much anyone could achieve in so many ways its not funny. You can do this with blasters, tanks, corrupters, scrappers, brutes, doms, controllers, kheldians about the only thing you can't do it with is a defender and I may be wrong about that.

You can also do this with just a well formed team put together to be powerful there are at least 4 doing just that now. Matter of fact one has level pacts as a means to slow them down so they don't hit 50 in 2 or 3 days of play. (One of their groups hit 21 in one session with the level pacts).

So yes I cry out asking for guidance. I like the game. I have no wish to violate the rules but as far as I can tell there aren't any except random whim.

the devs have already said that letting squishies get so much defense was a mistake. They haven't nerfed it yet. Apparently you are begging them to do it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then the game would be completely dominated by the melee toons and the only role for squishies would be on teams.

A well built brute or scrapper can do the same things. The brute can almost certainly do it better. Even a propper tank build can farm effectively though not as effectively. There are also a variety of other squishies that can do the same things without relying on the ranged defense soft cap.

A dark corruptor with blizard can mow down twice the aggro cap in one click.

Once again, no offence, but male cattle excrement.
Meow farms allowed anyone to rack up outrageously outsized rewards at minimal risk.
I didn't use a "special" character when I played a meow farm, and the rewards were, frankly, ridiculous

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ok if I take a team of 8 into MA into an all LT farm at +1 con with this character. 7 of the 8 can be level 1 lowbies and do absolutely nothing. They will get the 15 hundred tickets and probably clear a full 10 levels in 15 minutes. The could certainly be leveled to 50 in less than a day.

If its 8 out of 8 its wrong, but if its 7/8 its ok ?

So consensus is 5% chance of being hit is the difference between Abusive and Smart.

And a further question, This type of blaster can clear a map to achieve the ticket cap in roughly 10-15 minutes usually less.

Is that smart or too fast ?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, the consensus is that, no offence, you are talking out of your nether regions.

You seriously want to compare a specially built character on a specially built map to meow farms?

    Really?
This is the argument you're making?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes that is exactly it. Everyone who farms uses a character specially built for it. This is a variant of the blaster I use to speed run positrons. I can do a positron spawned for 2 in less than an hour and half with this.

I know people that have brutes specifically designed to mow through bosses as if they were tissue paper. And by the same token there are brutes that can go through entire spawns of regular foes equally quickly probably a bit faster.

5% is a very thin line.

"You know it when you see it"

Thats what I keep seeing on the boards, its pretty much their position with the moral compass and reckless driving analogies.

I must be stupid because I really can't tell.

We had ranged weapons added to every group in MA because hoverblasting mobs that couldn't hit back was aberrant play.
I'd call that sensible play. The same way taking a melee character into mobs that have lots of mezzing attacks is a sensible play. The mezzes really cant affect the melee character and they are wasted attacks.

So the Hovering Blaster hitting at mobs with no ranged attacks was a bug that was fixed.

So taking this blaster into that same map would now be what smart play or abusive play ?

It has a softcapped range defense and for all intents an purposes the mobs mulling below at the aggro cap wouldn't be able to do anything to it. Whatever damage did get through could be easily countered with a couple of oranges and picking mobs that had cold based ranged attacks.

There is essentially zero risk for this with virtually unlimited reward. In my terms, I still have no idea what the devs ideas are . It can also achieve its rewards quickly and efficiently. So in terms of rewards per unit time its also very good.

Is it just smart play or not as the developers intended ? I have no damn Idea.

    Can you tell ?
  15. QR

    Depends

Pre IO sets Ice/(ment,ice,energy) all very good.

Nothing quite like a freeze ray then drain psyche off the held mob.

You're equating farming for badges with farming for XP and loot, which is not quite the same thing.

    it's exactly the same thing.
Repetitive behavior in the pursuit of in-game rewards.

True but with the exception of accolades badges don't increase your ability to earn more in game rewards. Whereas drops and such add to your productive capital.

Now here's a fun question...if we did have the player base of say...Final Fantasy 11 (750k last I saw around a year ago I think...). Would the Devs be more harsh w/ bannings cause they can afford to? Remember seeing someone post a report that showed 50k accounts have been banned in that game due to farming.

WAHHH SOMEONE DIDNT LIKE MY ARC. WHATS WORSE HE HAD A WHOLE LOT OF REASONS

    [/ QUOTE ]

It would have been nice if this is what happened to mine. I could have handled it.

BUT, I received ZERO feedback on what was wrong with my arc. And I will repeat ZERO feedback. All I got were 2 star ratings and not ONE SINGLE person gave me any indication as to what was wrong with it.

How is someone suppose to improved their arc if no one leaves feedback?????

So I just unpublished it and gave up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good criticism can be harder than writing good material. It's especially hard when you aren't trying to grief the author. You may want to try to reach out to your audience and actively request feedback. Label it as a work in progress, or ask for the parts that they liked.

Barring that you can let Venture review it.

I'm going to make a pile of level 1s and level pact them to people. Then I'm going to take my absolutely ridiculous SS/Fire Brute and my Fire/Kin Corruptor and go into all boss maps of enemies who do pure fire damage. I think I can get my level 1s to level 50 in under 10 hours despite being level pacted to logged out toons.

I'm also sure with this approach that NCSoft employees would be willing to kindly explain to me if this behavior is "not allowed."

    [/ QUOTE ]
First and foremost, if you want NCsoft answers, ask NCsoft questions, privately and directly. Asking us won't give you official answers, leaving an implied question floating on a forum for NCsoft to stumble upon and reply to at their leisure won't reliably get you an answer, and demanding an NCsoft answer in a forum question is against forum rules.

I've played junk. I've played arcs that had nearly no set up and were just a bunch of custom mobs kicking my butt and continuing to do so as I flogged through group after group after group.

The one thing we need to remember is that there is the truly awful out there and if we down rate the "Don't like so much" down to 1 stars, what do we do with an arc that is nearly unplayable?

    [/ QUOTE ]

You see I happen to like missions where I have endless mobs coming at me untill they run out or I do. If the mobs are interesting that will get at least 4 stars from me.

If on the other hand, you have some tedious bit where you have done little but feature people from your SG or those you have a gripe against in game. Or there is some weak story played up as being branched when its incredibly linear. Well that gets no rating from me. But I am actually excesively nice in this, in that I give either no rating, 4 stars, or 5 stars. Mostly 4s I think, Don't actually keep track.

This thread isn't even the worst of what has been on this sub forum. The original one on hall of fame was complaining about how even 4 stars were a horrendous handicap on an arcs advancement to it.

In the end it comes down to did someone like it. If they did great. If they didnt too fing bad. If you want to be an author better grow a thick skin.

People have predicted the death of games with a new release since the dawn of online gaming. Very very games actually close down shop unless they are absolute and total flops. Of course, NCSoft did have one of those (that car wars one), but hey....

When CO comes out or Marvel Universe Online, CoH will take a hit in population. I don't doubt it. But will the game end? Heck no. The worst case scenario is that they'll start to look at server merges to help keep up the population. But I have a feeling that CoH will be the WoW of hero games. It'll always be here plunking along.

Me? I'm itching to plunk down my $15 to get "going Rogue" so I can finally start to redeem my villans or let my heroes fall to darkness. I've got a great villan concept I've never really played because her concept almost 'requires' redemption with time. Two actually, both Master Minds.

And oddly either could be 'heroic' given the chance.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interesting thing though is CO has the feeling that it is the real COH II
