I saw a similar situation on Virtue. I think this illustrates just how good the rewards are for AE farms if they are able to compete with doubled experience in regular content.
-
Yes and it should but I haven't tested it (although as a point the heal duration is not the same as the recharge duration).
-
If you attack at long range using only single target attacks you can generally avoid aggroing rommy. the downside is that the nictus themselves don't move (or at least didn't the last time I tested it) which makes your two melee characters useless in this strategy.

Quote:Pretty much. At the same time it's worth pointing out that the outcome will likely be very different for a small community in the ocean than it would for your average third world country simply because it's much easier to control access.Ha, free from laws, regulations, and moral codes, no welfare, looser building codes, no minimum wage, and few restrictions on weapons doesn't that kind of sound like every third world country that we have now?
For example, one of the Libertarian proposals he wants to implement is "No Welfare". I have to say that no welfare is a lot easier to handle when you're in a situation that makes it very easy to simply deport anyone who would need welfare. I imagine that any employees there (as opposed to millionaire residents) who loses their job will simply be placed on the next transport ship back to the United States.
Similarly the lack of a government enforced minimum wage is less of a concern when you do have an artificial scarcity of labor. In an artificial state there are effectively no "residents" simply "owners" and "employees". Since the employees are, effectively, living in somewhat extreme isolation they will have to be paid a higher wage than they would earn for an equivalent job on the mainland in order to convince them to do it (i.e. if I can earn $7 an hour working at Walmart I'm not going to move to an artificial island for $7 an hour). -
Quote:A useful tip if you're time limited is to start your own trials since that way you control when the trial starts. I don't know about other servers but on Virtue at least it's not uncommon to see hordes of people standing around the RWZ looking for trials with no one actually starting one. I was doing some trials last night and managed to get a full team of 16 for a Lambda in less than 5 minutes just by saying in broadcast "I'm starting a Lambda, who wants to join?".Thanks very much to both of you. If trials are just 20-30 minutes (those two at least) I may be able to swing one of those every once in awhile.
Admittedly you might want to run them once or twice first to learn them yourself before leading but once you know the basics leading them mostly just involves telling people which strategy to use. -
For Fake Nemesis I normally just farm them in either PI or FBZ but if you prefer a Flashback mission the arcs provided by The Dark Watcher and Serpent Drummer both have a number of fixed Fake Nemesis in the first few missions.

Quote:That's a pretty good mix for this sort of thing. The Cold Dom gives everyone a good chunk of defense and the kin boosts damage.Tanker: Dark/BattleAxe
Scrapper: Katana/Fire
Defender: Cold Domination/Dark
Controller: Electric/Kin
Blaster: Fire/?
General comments strategy:
1. Keep everyone softcapped, that means 4 small purples per minute for the Defender, 2 per minute for everyone else. You could potentially use oranges as well but due to tray size limits versus combat duration you'll probably need to buy medium or large inspirations to get enough in (for purples a medium replaces 2 smalls and then add at least 2 medium oranges for a noticeable difference)
2. Make sure the Controller keeps the Defender Speed Boosted at all times (and ideally everyone else but especially the Defender). The extra recharge will mean he can use Benumb a lot more often which will really help with Rommy.
3. Unless you have people running tactics consider having people use some yellow inspirations (especially anyone who is SK'd up). Romans have a lot of defense powers and even one small yellow every minute makes a huge difference in overall damage dealt.
4. As mentioned above, pull to the grass (if you weren't already doing that). -
Quote:It's technically possible but my experience is that even if you can split them off killing the nictus is harder than killing Rommy. I've done it a few times when we accidentally dragged him out of LoS of the Nictus (this bugs the resurrect you you end up with no Rommy and several Nictus) but they seem to be tougher than him so I wouldn't recommend it on a team that is struggling anyway.1) Is it possible to kill off the nicti first? I get the impression that Romulus himself has to go down (multiple times) -- at least that's how I remember seeing it done -- instead of shearing him of his nicti, but I'm not really sure. It does seem we cannot "pull" the nicti until we target and pull Romulus himself. Since we lack a second taunter, the odds of forcibly splitting him from the nicti are iffy at best.
Quote:2) Is there anything else tactically we should be doing in order to defeat him? We've tried asking the ranged squishies to stand way back, but to date it hasn't worked -- something is shooting them.
Quote:3) What else can we do (without leaving/breaking the Task Force) to beef up? We're all heroes, not a mixed-faction team, so we can leave the zone. Here's what I've come up with: -
Quote:I tend to feel the same way. I have made one female character but I always feel weird playing females, it's like I'm lying to people. Intellectually I know that most people won't care and will ignore my character's gender anyway and generally assume I'm male but it still bothers me, I don't like misleading people. My entire character lineup is male, any female toons I have made have either remained as saved costume files, or as a concept idea I wanted to try on a different server. Because I tend to get into the world of my characters a bit, and mildly team role play on a few of them, playing as female characters has always felt odd to me. So by playing males exclusively, not only do I avoid that strange feeling, but there is also no confusion between the gender of my characters versus the gender of the player behind them.
As for the name itself, it's actually taken from two different games that I played in my youth. Adeon comes from Warhammer 40K, it was the name of a character in a short story in one of the Blood Angel codexes (3rd edition, I think). Hawkwood is taken from the Emperor of the Fading Suns RPG setting. I like the name simply because it fits reasonably well into most settings and it is reasonably unique, the individual components are not unique (in fact this forum has both an Adeon and a Hawkwood) but the combination is which means I can use it (or the shorter Adeon Hawk) in most places on the internet. -
I'm not sure about this one. My experience is that you cannot invite people of the opposing alignment to the leader unless everyone else is in-zone.

Quote:The issue there though is that you need to take Scorpion Shield and Weave to do that. That has a number of downsides. First Weave adds a lot to the already high endurance cost of Time. Second it ties up power slots (something a Time character is likely to be short on). Three Scorpion Shield locks you into a single PPP which may not be the preferred option for you. Fourth taking Scorpion Shield means you're passing on taking a resistance shield, even with softcapped defenses some attacks will get through and having resistance to mitigate the effects is useful. Finally I'd prefer positional defense to S/L defense since S/L is not that great at stopping mezzes something which Time characters are very vulnerable to.Well, the thing is, TM is so easy to turn into a tank mage that unless you're really trying to budget your toon, there's really no reason NOT to perma Chrono Shift. You can soft cap S/L/E with almost no IO slotting. And while YOU may or may not benefit a ton from perma Chronoshift, like you mention, certain teammates surely can.
I'm not saying it's wrong to go for perma Chronoshift but if my goal was to build a tank mage I think I'd aim to build for positional defense instead. -
Nice write up. For the most part I agree with you but there are a few things I'd comment on:
Quote:Under most situations I'd consider melee characters to be a poor choice for Temporal Selection. If you're the only support character on a team that is struggling I could see using it on them for the healing buff but on a team that's doing well I'd use the same targeting priorities as Adrenalin Boost, specifically use it on people who get the most benefit from the recharge. In general this means characters with Control or Buff/Debuff sets. Most of them have extremely powerful abilities on long timers and boosting their recharge allows them to get them out more often (for example TSing a Controlelr/Dominator means his AoE stun is up more often which probably prevents more damage than the healing boost would).Temporal Selection - The "accelerate" buff. The damage buff itself is real nice. It also works on pets (Lore, Mastermind, Patron). I wanted to be selfish and skip this, but I found my build actually had room for it anyway. With a lot of recharge, you can keep this buff on about 2 to 3 people at any given time. When it's on a player, your Temporal Mending and Chrono Shift will benefit them more. Practically, this is going on Tankers, Brutes and Scrappers first. For now, I 3 slotted with Recharge IOs.
Quote:Chrono Shift - Feels very much like a T9. Slick animation and a lot of benefits. Some over time healing and +50% recharge to everyone. Chrono Shift stacks with other Chrono Shifts but not from the same player. That is to say, if I cast it twice, it doesn't apply 100%. But if I cast it and then YOU cast it too, we get +50% twice. Anyway, this is another one that you're going to want to shoot for making permanent. It's a bit harder to do than Farsight, but still not outside the realm of impossibility. For now I 3 slotted it with Recharge IOs. -
I agree it would be an excellent QoL feature. That being said I kinda wonder if there is a technical reason why we can't reliably invite cross-faction except when everyone is int he same zone (and similarly why we cannot reorganize league teams when people are out of zone.
If you recall when co-op zones were first introduced you could only invite when everyone was in zone and leaving the zone kicked you from the team (which sucked for doing TFs). Even with the later changes cross-faction invites are tricky (they seem to work but only if all members of the team are either the same faction as the invitee or are in a co-op zone). Since it seems odd that the devs would deliberately implement such an inconvenient system I suspect that there is something in the code that makes cross-faction invite problematic. Given that CoV and CoH were originally separate games with no co-op zones this isn't entirely implausible. -
Quote:With the CoH/CoV merger everyone gets access to ATs on both sides regardless of box purchases. This continues into Freedom with the 8 'core' ATs freely available to all (Controllers, MMs and EATs are restricted). If he gets the $9.99 version, will he not have access to the former villain ATs?
Good point, I didn't know those were gone from the online store. -
Most of the features in Going Rogue are purchasable by Premium players. Therefore my understanding is that if you have already purchased Going Rogue you will retain access to those features when you go Premium. This includes side-switching, Preatoria, and the GR power sets but does not include Incarnate content/powers or the "limited access" ATs (so he'll have Demon Summoning but won't be able to use it and will not be able to make Electric Control Controllers).
Comparing GvE to basic CoH you won't lose any of it going premium but the perks it has are limited. For a new player I'd consider the Mac Edition or AE Edition better since they have better perks (Valk costume set for Mac edition and free magic booster for AE). -
All Dean said was that the person who gave him the letter was male. Since the letter writer is actively recruiting people (including Protean and Ajax) he (or she) clearly has minions he (or she) could ask to deliver a letter.
-
The idea I always liked is that it's Faathim the Kind. Admittedly this isn't a perfect solution, the letters seem a bit odd in their wording if it is him (such as the phrase "What about the version of Mender Silos from Faathim's reality?") but I think he does work as a possibility.
That being said I think the most likely solution is that we have not let encountered the letter writer in game. In Silos's SF he says "While you have not yet met me face to face" and in Silos's TF he says "Again, I apologize for my inability to meet with you in person." Given that both of these are level 46-50 that tends to imply that he isn't anyone we've met in the level 1-50 content. Admittedly the wording is a bit vague and does allow for the possibility that we've met an older version of him but not actually met the letter writing version the implication seems to be that he is not involved in level 1-50 content. He could, potentially be involved with the Incarnate content but as others have said I hope it's not Prometheus. -
Well for the first one if your main interest is in a hold Psychic Mastery would seem the way to go. Dominate is the best single target hold in Corruptor Epics bar none. Unlike the holds in the PPPs Dominate (and Shocking Bolt) has about 50% longer duration (17.8s versus 11.9s) and half the recharge time (16s versus 32s). Additionally Dominate is a damage scale 1 attack and has a large accuracy bonus (1.2x). The rest of Psychic Mastery is a bit meh for you but you can pick up a resistance shield (more on that later).
If you want an AoE immobilize as well (which can be useful) I'd for for Leviathan Mastery. the immobilize doesn't have kb protection so you won't negate sleet.
Finally Soul Mastery might be worth a look. It's not a great option due to the weaker hold than Psychic and the fact that Soul Drain and Powerboost (the main reasons to take it) doesn't really synergize with your other sets but it does have Dark Embrace which synergizes very well.
Now, why do I think you should take a Resistance Shield? You mentioned defense before and indeed defense is generally more useful to a squishy than resistance but if you are planning to build defense through IOs anyway then adding some resistance for layered defenses is well worth doing. Corruptors get pretty decent modifiers and a S/L resistance shield gives you 42% resistance once you slot it up. This is particularly useful on a Cold Corruptor since you already have about 22% resistance to Fire/Cold/Energy. Adding an epic shield gives you a wider range of resistances and (potentially) enhances the ones you have. I particularly like Dark Embrace since it fills in two of the three holes in Arctic Fog. If you take both and slot them then you have about 42/42/22/22/22/17/17/0 for resistances. It may not look like much but against anything other than a Psionic attack you are reducing the damage by a not insignificant amount. On it's own it isn't a lot but if you build up some ranged defnese it can make a significant difference. -
Quote:Nah, the fact that it would be a Corruptor was the only thing selling me on the idea. I already have three versions of Adeon Hawkwood (AR/Dev Blaster, Traps/AR Defender, and Bots/Traps MM) I really wanted a Beam Rifle Corruptor to complete the set but I don't want another Trapper and after Traps Force Field is the best thematic matchand you could still make a ff/beam gun defender if you were pretty set on the idea
.
-
Quote:Ummm... you're right. Why the heck did I think they were getting forcefield? I'm apparently going insane. Well there goes my plan to make a Beam Rifle/Forcefield Corruptor.if corrs are getting FF then thats an undocumented piece of power proliferation
in the announcement of power proliferation for this issue corrs were only getting poison and psi blast
Seriously though, where on earth did I get the idea that Corruptors were getting Forcefield? -
-
This is really what it comes down to. I use Ignite a LOT when I'm soloing on my AR characters but I rarely use it at all on teams (occasionally against an AV). It's not worth the setup time on a fast moving team but solo it's an excellent way of taking out bosses or particularly troublesome Lts.

Quote:I don't really farm much myself (largely because I don't enjoy playing melee characters) but I do make it a point to know how the farms work before I talk about them.No that won't happen. have you actually farmed by chance? It's not a big deal if you haven't.
Quote:- They Only kill the front spawn/ambush and then click glowie to exit. Many times they only get a bonus of a couple hundred tickets if that due to how much they gain from all the ambushes.
- Most farmers stay to kill the rest of the foes for the extra inf that drops so a ticket bonus won't mean anything to them cause they'll cap no matter what.
In any case it doesn't really matter it's human nature to want to get something for nothing. Add a "give me better rewards for no extra effort" button and people WILL use it. Even if their style of play doesn't really need it they will select it "just in case".
If you want to separate farms and stories and want to do so in a way that will work and doesn't require constant policing you can't provide better rewards for declaring an arc to be a story. -
I didn't have a lot of time to play but I did level my Dominator from 22 to 30 and started a new Defender who ended at level 24.
-
Does it make people play less overall? That I don't know (and honestly I doubt). However, it can make certain people end up playing less and quitting. This tends to happen when people who dislike farming become convinced that farming is "required". They then start farming but because they dislike that style of play end up burning out and quitting. So not real "farming makes people play less" but more "a prevailing attitude that farming is required tends to drive away people who don't like to farm".
