I have to admit I'm just not jazzed to do this, the whole thing seems a tad too complex for it's own good. I also have to deal with my hours - chances are I'll be playing some toons when there's maybe five other people in a zone (I've frequently seen zones empty save for myself). I'm also not much of a badge-hound; I have one toon I sort of try badge-out for the sake of it, but I've skipped some content I don't enjoy at all such as the ski-runs. Looks like this may be another one of those times.
If you go to the link that you quoted, you'll see that Giant Monsters and Deadly Apocalypse are two different events, and as Ad Astra points out, they can run simultaneously in the same zone. (The Zombie Apocalypse and the Deadly Apocalypse are mutually exclusive, though, I've seen the Zombie Apocalypse start the moment the Deadly Apocalypse ended.)

One team of eight can beat the Deadly Apocalypse. They just send two people to each banner to wear down the banner's barrier and make it vulnerable. Then all eight gather at each banner successively to take them down. Then they go after the Greater Mystic Aspect (Giant Monster).

The best strategy we found on Test, where we usually didn't have four full teams was for each team to spread their players among the banners. This way, teams didn't have to communicate with each other over who has which banner... all teams take all banners to wear down the barrier. And if there's less than eight people at a banner, then after the banner is down, everyone in the zone goes to the Red banner (it's icon is first) and takes them down one at a time.

Yeah, you'll need to be on a team to pass the 10% damage threshhold to get the Badge for the GM defeat. But luckily, you only have to do that once and the other rewards for the GM defeat only require 1 point of damage.

I heard that Penny Yin might be trapped in the Atlas Blimp. At least, that's what her dad said.

Take a level 50 and play as many TFs/SFs you can. They make boatloads of XP just playing. Then check out the going rate for the crafted level 50 recipes that drop. If they're common IOs that sell for more than 500k, craft 'em and sell 'em. If they're Set IOs that sell for more than two million, craft 'em and sell 'em.

Eventually, you'll get enough Merits to purchase the IO Set Recipes you want for yourself. Once you take care of your own toons, use the Merits to buy the most expensive Set Recipes (usually Numina's Convalescent) and craft them and sell them on the market.

    • For a while, you could get Purples off of non-Gold AE ticket rolls. This was a bug. It possibly suggests the devs had to do something to stop Purples from appearing in the reward list, which otherwise mimicked Pool A drops.
    • The predictable drop RNG bug caused some maps to have set patterns of exactly which mobs would drop Pool A recipes, and one of the things that could drop at the "Pool A" spot was Purples. Those same spots in the sequence never dropped costume recipes (which happened at different points in the sequence).
    • Anecdotally, I have never seen nor heard of a purple and a pool A dropping at the same time. This is possible with other differing drop pools. For example, I have gotten an enhancement recipe and costume recipe off of the same mob defeat before, when solo. Of course, it's possible I have never heard of this simply because it is sufficiently rare.
Ah, that makes perfect sense. Given the evidence, I concur that Purples are part of Pool A (unless Synapse recently stealthily changed it).

Later when I fought him as part of a team, I got the merits, the reward table, and the badge.

And this isn't a case of not being able to get the GM badge without first getting all four banner badges -- on another character I teamed up and got only 3 of the four banner badges, then fought the GM and got his badge. I then later got the last banner badge in another round along with the accolade.
    K, updating the Wiki...

    A few questions?

At level 50, the Fly Speed Cap is 58.63 mph.

Fly with Freebird all at level 50 = 53.5 mph.

Fly with Freebird all at level 50 + Swift with 1 Level 50 Fly IO = 56.2 mph.

Fly with Freebird all at level 50 + Swift with 2 Level 50 Fly IOs = 57.0 mph.

Fly with Freebird all at level 50 + Swift with 3 Level 50 Fly IOs = 57.4 mph.

As mentioned above, the extra slots in Swift are a waste.

However, if you forgo Swift and add one more slot to Fly...

Fly with Freebird all at level 50 + 1 Fly IO = 61.5 mph uncapped, capped to 58.63 mph.

You get five minutes before foes spawn. One minute for the banners to spawn, then the 20 minute countdown starts. Then at 16:00, the foes spawn.

You get another 20 minutes to defeat the GM after the last banner goes down, so it doesn't hurt to wait a bit to let everyone get in place to fight him.

Anyone else notice any misconceptions about the event?

I just added to the Wiki:
Defeating the Giant Monster will grant 2 Merits and a Reward Table for a choice of Temporary Powers (see Powers below) or Medium Inspiration. Any player who has done any amount of damage to the Giant Monster and is nearby when it is defeated will get the rewards; there is no requirement to do 10% or 25% of damage. Thus, there is no need to rush to kill the Giant Monster. Players can wait until everyone in the zone gets to the GM before trying to defeat it without losing out on any rewards.
Basically, the GM is using the Hamidon method of determining who gets a reward.

Keep broadcasting that *everyone* can get the 2 Merits and the Reward Table by doing just one point of damage and being nearby when the GM is defeated. There is no need to do 10% or 25% of damage. Thus there is no penalty for waiting for everyone to get to the GM.

The Greater Mystic Aspect GM uses the Hamidon method of reward.
  12. I wrote most of what the Wiki says on how the event works.

On the Test server, we had everyone in the zone (just one team) working on one Banner and the progress bar didn't budge.

But when that one team divided itself up with two people at each banner, then we succeeded.

We never tried the strategy of everyone at one banner for a minute then the next and so on to see if the progress bar can be moved by successive attacks rather than simultaneous attacks.

Now, if you have just one or two teams, then you have to spread them out. It wound up easier that way with every full team spread out all their members to all the Banners. This way, you didn't even have to bother coordinating between teams with who's at each banner.

With only one or two teams, after the banners become vulnerable, it was definitely better if they all converge on the same banner and destroy each of them successively. However, if you have four or more teams in a zone, then there's enough firepower to destroy all the banners simultaneously.

Although, keep in mind, that the more players at a banner during the destruction phase means the more 'glyphs' the banners produce. Check out the empty circles in the runes. If they have an icon in it, something's getting buffed. And each banner can produce up to four stacking copies of that buff. The Glyph of Might (Red) gives the Defenders a 25% damage bonus. And I saw three of them on one of the banners (go Mk III Analyzer!). There's a Glyph of Defense (Purple) and a Glyph of Resistance (Orange).

And because it can't be said enough: The final GM grants 2 Merits and the Reward table to anyone who does any amount of damage to it and is nearby when it's defeated. There is no need for an individual or team to do 10% or 25% or more damage to get the rewards.
  13. I've Black Hole'd a tower, but there are two problems with that:

    1. When it's phased, you can't 'attack it' to renew the phase, so, you have to let the phase wear off first which is dangerous if you're relying on that tactic.

    2. It draws agro from LR. He really *hates* it when you phase a tower. If the Tank doesn't have a strong agro lock on him, you're being one-shotted.

Are you sure? On Test, most people were exclusively doing the Deadly Apocalypse and no one mentioned getting Halloween Event salvage from it.
  18. Funny, I just had to turn /hide on last night for that reason.

Use Teleport if you have it or have someone on your team teleport you. Teleport overrules server v. client confusion over where you belong. Teleport tells the server, "I'm here. Period!"
  22. Zombie Apocalypse XP -- Their XP is significantly and intentionally reduced precisely because of how easy they are to kill when a bunch of players gang up on them.

Greater Mystic Aspect (Giant Monster) Reward Table and Merits
-- Unlike other GMs where you or your team needs to do at least 10% of the damage to get credit for the kill and Merits, the Greater Mystic Aspect is more like the final Hamidon, which means, all you have to do is do at least 1 point of damage and be nearby (probably 250 ft) in order to get the Merits and the Reward Table.

This means that there should be no need to rush to the Aspect and start killing and doing a lot of damage before others show up.

Presumably, there are now more "tricks" than "treats" because now the tricks are what supply us with costume salvage. However, that makes looking for the costume badges incredibly tedious. I am experiencing something like an 8- or 10-to-1 ratio of tricks to treats. That's a lot of door clicks to get to 50 costumes - especially when every treat doesn't actually seem to give a costume. (Yes, I know nothing happens if you get one you already had, but I am watching my badge progress bar, too.)

At least there's a badge progress bar these days.
When this was on Test, I knocked 200 doors and the ratio of Tricks to Treats for me was nearly 1:1.

My experience on Live hasn't changed, but I haven't been keeping track.
