Quote:Perfect_Pain is Dev Trolling again. Thanks for making your motives so explicit.Hmmm... I wish i could summon a dev to say, "Marcian is correct! New missions maps are on the way!". That would be so cool.
Look for a new thread every week. It's like looking for Waldo or Hidden Mickeys. -
So that lowbies can co-op MA arcs.

Quote:You're letting the secret out!I don't know why y'all get in such a twist about this. My neg reps and PMs are some of my most treasured possessions. My fave is a "stern talking to" another forum poster gave me about my name and how it violates the Freemason's oath. The message ended with the insistence that I change my name.
It's sorta like looking at cartoons drawn by the mentally insane. One part insight into the human psyche and condition, one part colorful fun! -
Quote:Actually... that person is correct about the RP.Did you guys get a SRS BZNS message like this one?
Join the Resistance! 10-28-2009 06:32 AM This thread should be in the RP forum. Forum rules are posted at the top of all the sections. If you have any questions PM a Moderator.
So many people out there want to be armchair moderators. I find it amusing.
However, they're wrong for using the Rep button. They should have used the Report to Mod button. Apparently they don't know how to follow the rules they want enforced.

There's a noticeable memory leak this issue which hasn't been fixed yet (such memory leaks have happened before).
When you run only one instance, are you able to play longer before you crash? -
Quote:Oh. In that case, I want to give positive rep to the Mod that actually used the MERGE function.LOL Zombie.
You must not have noticed, but we both actually started threads simultaneously. Somebody noticed within minutes, and the threads were merged... You get credit for my title.
Hope whoever that is is just as assiduous in merging all the future 'when is GR coming' threads. -

Quote:Let me get this straight: You're saying that when we get an underwater zone in the next Issue, you're not going to provide SCUBA suits for our ponies?I'm going to kill everyone's pony and say that as long as I am on this project, it will never happen. They will have to replace me with a gibbering idiot to get the okay to move forward with animation and VFX needed to support 'underwater' zones.
And then it will take years and ultimately look stupid. -
Don't forget that Nueron and Anti-Matter built sentient androids: Nightstar and Seige.
-
Did you have that radio mission as a hold-over from the previous Issue? That sometimes scrambles up the guest-villain-faction.

The Primal and Praetorian world meet-up by way of a wardrobe in Statesman's and Tyrant's bedrooms.
You don't want to wake up either when using it. Take Stealth. -
Which Mod do I negrep for changing the title of the thread?

Quote:Tyrant was not originally a pejorative term. They do rather let the side down by calling him "Tyrant", though. I mean, a man who adopts that as a stage name is either indulging in more irony than an emo-goth Partridge Family cover band or quite comfortably in touch with his inner evil.

Compared to some truly incompetent rulers who inherited their kingdoms, a tyrant who was adept enough to seize power to himself was a welcome change. A tyrant is the poster boy for a meritocracy.
It was the Athenians leaning toward democracy and the Romans with their Republican Senate which demonized the tyrant. And boy did those bookish types trash the idea of a tyrant. And while the Athenians and the Roman Senate are precursors of modern Representative Democracy; they weren't boy scouts. The both wanted rule by 'the people', meaning a few wealthy, male slave owners.
By the Middle Ages, Aquinas was using the term 'tyrant' as a neutral word for any ultimate leader, whether they be king, or chieftain, or war lord, or emperor. And since the overwhelming majority of human existence lived under the rule of a single powerful leader; this was simply considered the norm.
The Renaissance and Age of Enlightenment started to bring in critical thinking about the role of a tyrant and from whence the mandate to rule is based. And in order to make the point that all the people should have a say, they engaged in tyrant-bashing.
But tyrants aren't always that bad. If a populace is in chaos or lacks the resources to be self-governing (ignorance, lack of education, under an epidemic, break down of local government, under gang rule, being attacked by a foreign army), then in those cases, a tyrant is a very good idea.
We've seen in recent history that removing a tyrant doesn't automatically allow democracy to spring up overnight. Both in Hungary and Iraq, the removal of a bad tyrant without replacing him with a benevolent tyrant simply allowed generations-old racial hatreds to become civil wars.
The assumption that a tyrant is always worse then the people governing themselves is naive position born of ideology. Sometime the people are incapable of self governance and instead of letting them kill each other in anarchy, you need a tyrant to govern until you can teach the people to govern themselves. Although, the problem with that is that sometimes tyrants get rather used to their power and are reluctant to give it up even when the people are ready for self-governance. -
Quote:The concept art for the whips shows them to be fire whips, which is probably to hide the fact that they need to work at ranges an ordinary whip couldn't. Fire effects can hide the fact that the whip is hitting nowhere near the target. So with whips coming for certain playable characters, will there also be NPC's with whips? Specifically, I'm wondering about Dominatrix.
Doing a realistic bullwhip like the unfortunately named Dominatrix would use might never be in the works. -
Heh, now we all know why they hired four Concept Artists.

Quote:Defense determines *if* you get hit. If an attack is 'typed' by several components, e.g., Fire/Lethal/Melee; then the highest is used. E.g., your Defense numbers are 25% Fire Def/30% Lethal Defense/7.5% Melee Defense; so an attack that is Fire/Lethal/Melee would be Defended against at 30%.I have a question for you all. Be warned it involves math.
In my combat attributes screen it shows that I have a 25% Fire defense, and a 7.5% melee defense. I also have a 10% fire damage resistance. So as I understand it if I ONLY had those numbers, a fire ranged attack would be at -25% to base to hit, but a fire melee attack would be at a - 32.5% to hit. If they hit for 100 points of damage I would only take 90 pts of damage? Do I have that right?
Resistance reduces damage inflicted *when* you get hit. So, in the example above, if your foe got past your 30% Lethal defense and the Damage is 100 points Fire and 100 point Lethal and you have 10% Fire Resistance and 0% Lethal Resistance, then you will take 90 points of Fire Damage and 100 points of Lethal Damage. -
I prefer semi-speed TFs where you take shortcuts and stealth where you can, but without purposely failing the mission.
So for the LGTF, you fight to Penny, but then use Assemble the Team to get her to the door and fight the CWK.
You rescue Galatia and Infernia and beat the AV, but you stealth find and rescue the last two hostages.
That sort of thing -- basically leaving out the boring stuff. -
That may be signs of an infection.
Please post the results of these two programs:
- CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
- HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.
NOTE: If you suspect you have a virus on your computer, then when you install HijackThis do not install it in a directory called 'HijackThis' -- modern viruses look for that and disable anything in that directory. Rename it. Also, when it starts up, do *not* run a report. Back out of the program and rename the HijackThis.exe file to something else (I renamed mine to Love.exe
) -- again, to fool the modern viruses that would stop it from running.

Quote:You're saying what seems to be the opposite of what Lightfoot reported.I also tallked with Brian Clayton who gave me the same answer: There will likely be an Issue 17 before Going Rogue (which isn't due to come out until April-May-June). Some of the stuff (like Ultra Mode) may be ready to toss into Issue 17 and will be if it is.
Lightfoot said Brian said there is no definite plan for an Issue 17 and there will only be an Issue 17 *if* they can scrape up some non-GR stuff ready-to-go before GR hits.
You're saying Brian said there is a likely plan for Issue 17.
I guess the two reports can be reconciled if they would like to do an Issue 17 and have some stuff they know they can put into it and hope to have more to make it a full issue but that's not a sure thing at this point. -
Quote:Well, I was kinda hoping the Mods left it on so that after the novelty wore off they would start enforcing its purpose in not only going after abusive comments (which they said they would do from the beginning) but also to turn back to zero the rep of obvious farmers so it would have actual meaning.I really hope it didn't take Niv's comment for you to realize just how useless rep is.
The admission that it's just a game tells me that they're not going to do that, therefore, it has no worth. And if something has no worth and can create ill will and be a source of Forum PvP by those who know how to get the goat of another poster without crossing the line of being abusive, well, then, it's incredible that it's allowed to even exist. It is *less* than useful, even as a game. It's like the old PWNZ 'threads to watch' without the wit or accountability.
I guess I was naive about the Mods intentions with this. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I retract that. -
Nivienne just posted that the Rep System is a "forum game."
So, how are we supposed to know that? According the the forum FAQ:What is reputation?
So, it can't be used for it's purpose according to the forum providers. So, it's useless as a 'communal quality control.' It's just a game.
Reputation is a way of rating users depending on the quality of their posts. If the administrators have enabled reputation, then the reputation icon will be visible in posts.
Well, judging it as a game, it's useless. It's just dots without meaning. If we were *really* to game it, we can get teams to 'go after' certain posters to turn their dots deeply red. And then that would get disciplined as harassment.
And what game encourages anonymous taunts and criticisms? This is forum PvP in it's truest sense since it sets players *against* players rather than friendly competition.
So really, it's less than useless -- it's harmful.
Mods, turn rep off for good.
I've turned mine off and am never going to check any comments again and never going to give anyone +/- rep again.
Oh, if you you think Tags are a forum game too, and aren't going to edit out the silly ones, then get rid of Tags, too. -
Quote:Speaking of Valkyrie, riddle me this, Manticore:
Question: What's up with Valkyrie’s spear? It seems odd to have an advanced technological spear just sitting around. Are there more artifacts like this around? Where did they come from?
Answer: The spear that started Valerie Kellum’s career as a hero is an artifact from the violent alternate world of War Earth, which also happens to be the homeworld of the Praetorian known as Battle Maiden. It’s very possible that there are more such weapons hidden on Primal Earth waiting to be uncovered.
Primal Earth Valerie Kellum became Valkyrie when she received the Spear which came from War World dimension.
Battle Maiden is supposed to be Valkyrie's Praetorian counterpart, but Battle Maiden isn't from Praetoria, she's from War World.
So, my question is... wha?
Does this mean there is also a Valerie Kellum actually from Praetoria? And how did all this communication and transportation happen between War World and Praetoria if Portal Tech is brand new on Praetoria?
Next question is similar to the first about but Black Swan: Her in-game description says:Born with a connection to Shadow Earth in the Netherworld, Black Swan can channel energy from that dimension into attacks and defenses. She is served by minions that some say she draws from Shadow Earth and others say are created by stealing pieces from the shadows of her victims.
However, in Maria Jenkins' arc, A Hero's Hero, she is constantly being referred to as coming from a Nether World...
The Praetorian Black Swan gains her powers from her dimension of origin, some sort of Shadow World. No one at Portal Corporation has yet been able to determine which dimension Black Swan comes from, but we know that that's where she finds her shadow soldiers. If you could shut down Black Swan's portal to Shadow World, you could prevent her army from growing any larger. Maybe you could even cut off her own power supply!
So, is she from a Nether Dimension and if yes, how did she become a Praetorian and is there another Lena Eliot running around Praetoria who is not the Black Swan or Swan?
And same follow up question about Black Swan using portal tech to contact Nether Worlds: That implies the Praetorians developed Portal technology as early as Earth Prime rather than just recently, so, which is it?
