You go up to Paragon Studios to look in the windows but the shades are drawn and the lights are out. You knock on the door and try to open it... it's locked. You think you heard whispering. You knock again. No answer.

Quote:Another possibility is you are playing at a resolution which does not match the native resolution of your monitor. If that is the case the monitor will interpolate pixels on a flatscreen - this won't affect CRTs.
You can also get a similar effect on CRTs to your screenshots if the refresh rate is set too high - not sure if this also affects flatscreens
Good idea.
So try...
1. Windowed mode in the Menu/Options/Graphics Tab window for the resolution.
2. If the above doesn't work, try running the client in Safe Mode. If the distortion goes away, then it's one of the graphics settings that's the problem. -

Or, just a newspaper article. -
Quote:People with dual cards have tracked the performance of the game with and without their second card -- no difference.Little bit of a side track.
Players: Does the game right now utilize SLI?
Anybody in the know: Will the game utilize SLI post-expansion?
Whether there's a plan to change that, I don't know, but I'd doubt it. If they were going to optimize CoH for dual cards, they'd probably would have mentioned that along with Ultra Mode. -
Are you behind a college firewall?
Try specifying a specific port. See here: paragonwiki.com/wiki/Client#Game_Ports -

Quote:That definitely is the Cadillac of systems. But their cost is about $500 - $1,000 more than the others.Falcon Northwest
I'm on my second Mach V now, they make good machines. Check out how you can customize it pretty much anyway you want.
I'm leaning toward a system built by cyberpower.com. AnandTech gave them a good rating and they're about $300-$500 cheaper than the other sites.
Check out: www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/LAN_Party_Commander. The problem is so many choices, especially figuring out which PSU and motherboard to go with.
And a big thanks to all who provided feedback! -
This has happened to others before. Aggelakis suggests a solution in this thread, but the OP never reported back if it worked.
I remember older thread about this, but I don't remember how they were resolved and are probably lost to the forum purges.
edit: fixt link. Thanks TJ -
Random stuff to try:
1. Delete checksum.coh from your CoH directory and reboot the computer. Run the updater and let it reverify.
2. If the above doesn't fix it, issue in the chat/command line: /window_reset_all -
Quote:It must be something specific to Ouroboros missions and not generic TF-mode. I just did a Baracuda SF last night, and even though the foes were all 49, all the recipe drops were 50, both generic and Set IOs.Running some of the Oro missions that just got fixed in the new patch and I'm noticing that any mob not level 50 is dropping level 45 generic IO recipes? I only noticed this when I went to test with -1 level settings of course. IIRC 47+ drop level 50 recipes...
Edit: Further testing shows this is happening with SO's as well but those tend to fluctuate wildly anyway so it's harder to tell.
Edit: boggled to learn that my settings were actually +0 level?? Regardless, 49's should be dropping 50 generics.
So further testing, double and triple checking settings, oro flashbacks at level 50 from -1 to +1 level of difficulty and +0 to +7 virtual teammates I still randomly get level 45 generics off of some level FIFTY mobs (!!) and randomly get level 48-50 SOs and have gotten a level 49 pacing of the turtle acc/end off of a level 50 Rikti. Crud. -
Quote:Correct.Watch video 3 of the Hero Con opening presentation (Q&A session)... Posi explicitly states that CoP and base raids are "on the table," but are not currently on their "list of things to get done before GR."
"Alien"
Which brings us back to the same answer given every time someone asks, "Is X going to be in Issue 17 or going to happen before Going Rogue?"
The answer is: NO.
NOTHING is being worked on that's not Going Rogue except for the Natural Booster Pack, the new Christmas Event feature, and the very tiny list of things listed in the first post of HeroCon GR Info thread. Bases aren't being worked on. PvP isn't being worked on. Zone revamps aren't being worked on. Customization of Pools isn't being worked on. Vehicles aren't being worked on. Unicorns that expel rainbows aren't being worked on. Going Rogue has top priority.
In fact there probably *WON'T* be an Issue 17 before Going Rogue. They have *no plans* for an Issue before Going Rogue. The *might*, *if* they have Ultra Mode ready and a few non-GR stuff done ahead of schedule put them together in a 16.5 release and *just maybe* there might be enough stuff to call it an Issue. But there are *no plans* at this time to get anything done in time for an Issue 17. They're not scheduling anything at this time for a pre-GR Issue release.
When a company like Paragon Studios does not have an Issue actually scheduled for release between now and GR, then don't expect one. It probably won't happen. Only if things work much better than they expected might there be an interim release. And on the other hand, a nasty bug or set-back (like what happened with The Vault or the many times they tried to fix the Cathedral of Pain) will not only guarantee there will be no interim Issue, but will delay GR.
And one more thing. Santa is staying home this Christmas.

Google has had this feature for about half a year, but it wasn't 'till just now that I saw that they changed it so that it would remember the sites you nixed. Previously, deleting sites was only for that search, and they'd pop up again in new searches.
When I help on the tech forum with people's HiJackthis logs, I'm often looking up various processes and there are a certain few sites which look like they have info, but in reality they want to sell you their analyzing software. Being able to keep them from showing up in searches now is wonderful. -
Quote:The prices are about the same, and since they're overclocking the CPU for you, it may be the best deal.Another vendor is Puget Systems. But it is a touch more expensive than the other two but actually list the manufacturer of every component from the power supply to the case fans. Personally I like to know the origin of my components.

Quote:The performance benchmarks that Tom's Hardware does shows that dual GPUs always give a significant increase in performance, especially at higher resolutions (and multiple screens). Now, they don't test CoH, but I imagine one of the ten games they benchmark is similar to CoH. Now it might not matter in the sense that it might be a difference of 90 fps v. 70 fps which is beyond one's capability to see a difference.Dual GPUs aren't currently taken advantage of by CoX (they will work but any performance increase will be minimal if any, physX not supported either by GPU), although Ultra mode may/should/will support it (*crosses fingers*).
Not having liquid cooling is not an option for these sites. It seems right now I'm ordering a Cadillac and I don't think I can ask for one without a radio.Quote:Water cooling isn't needed at stock speeds. Since you aren't looking to build your own system, it is highly unlikely that you want to get into the hassle of maintaining a water cooled system.

Zone revamps? Like what? The Devs said they put as much work into revamping Faultline and the RWZ as it would have been if they created a brand new zone. It's very labor intensive.

A little history...
1. TonyV originally hosted the Paragon Wiki.
2. He moved it to Wikia, which provides advertiser supported 'free' web hosting to specialized Wikis.
3. Wikia started to allow Real Money Traders (aka Gold Farmers) and rival MMOs to advertise on the City of Heroes wikia pages, so, he moved the Wiki to the Titan Network.
4. Wikia continues to host the old CoH Wikia which is poorly maintained by the RMTers' surrogates as they simply copy info put up on the real Wiki. We try to discourage people from using that site. Any url with 'wikia' in it is the wrong one for good, up-to-date information.
5. The good urls (both lead to the same Wiki site) are: www.paragonwiki.com and http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page
Now, here's the rub. If people go to Google to look up CoH info, it is the Wikia sites which are given preferential listing at the top of the list (the Wikia uses 'tricks' to get their site listed on top though the Wiki is more used).
However, you can change that. If you have a Google account (through Gmail or Google Docs), the listings have an up-arrow and a boxed-x next to them. The up-arrow 'promotes' the listing and the boxed-x deletes that listing from the current search *and all future searches*!
So, go to Google and do a search for: wikia city of heroes. Then delete all the listings that have 'wikia' in the front part of the url [before the slash].
Then do a search for just city of heroes and you should see only the Titan or ParagonWiki address show up. Promote them.
Not only will this give you the correct Wiki address in the future, but we can hope that if enough of us do this, then maybe Google is keeping track of this 'scoring' of results and the Wikia will drop below the Wiki when others search for City of Heroes info. -

So, it's time to move up to Win7 and upgrade (replace) the 5 year old machine.
So, I'm looking for a desktop that is a Windows 7 machine with an i7 core and a Radeon 5870. I don't plan to ever run several monitors at once, so, I don't need a dual GPU card.
I'm not going to bother putting it together myself. I want one that's put together for me. But for the configuration I'm looking for, I've only found Dell's Alienware, and Velocity Micro that can put that all together (both for about $2,100). So, two questions:
1. Any other place to look?
2. Should I be wary of liquid cooling systems?
