Check out this thread, Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines
Then post the results of these two programs:
- CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
- HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

I created a overlay of the major story arc icon to replace the in-game one. The difference between the major and minor arc icons is that one has a green bookmark and the other blue. Besides being indistinguishable for the colorblind, the color-sighted often have a hard time seeing the difference.
Here is a pic showing the minor (one bookmark) and the new major (two bookmarks) icon:

The 3 KB file is found here: storyarc_button_major.texture
From your main CityofHeroes or CohTest directories you must add this subdirectory tree: /data/texture_library/GUI/HUD/Contacts
Then put storyarc_button_major.texture in the Contacts subdirectory.
Then start up the CoH client. -
Quote:http://www.net-marks.com/oldsoftware/tweakcohSo where can I download TweakCoH now? I'd like to fix the 'font' issue without actually replacing the font. I click on the link and it's not there anymore. Tried to do some google-fu but all links point to the one in the post/quote and no luck.

Todd is moving all his stuff to a new site and the old stuff, including TweakCoh has been thrown into this 'oldsoftware' subdirectory which is hidden from the top of the site. -
DirectX9 is minimum requirements for CoH because it's used for GUI and sound, not 3D rendering. DX should have nothing to do with Ultra Mode.
-
Direct X9 is listed as a minimum requirement for CoH/V for the GUI and sound, not the 3D rendering.

While there was no new canonical content added to I16, that Issue did give us SuperSideKicking, removal of level-gated zones, and the new mission difficulty settings -- all of which allowed a much greater access to canonical content than ever before.
This is similar to I17's allowance of (V)EATs to anyone with a level 20 PC -- it grants easier access to content that was gated.
Yeah, I know that for some, that's not good enough. -
1. Toggling the UI off and on used to be default bound to the period key, then the number pad period key, and now, to nothing.
2. In your CityofHeroes directory, open the keybinds.txt file in Notepad. Put in this line:
. "++disable2D"
And save it. Restart CoH. Hitting the period will toggle the display now. -
Quote:I noticed a few weeks ago that hitting apply no longer moved the opacity slider.I had a problem on a couple of my characters ever since I started playing in Sept '08 where every time I logged in or just zoned, the opacity slider for my windows would slide downward. It only affected a couple of characters, but it was consistent on those two.
I could even go into the video options, slide it up, and watch it slip downwards every time I clicked apply.
However, opening and closing the options window still moved it, as well as just playing the game and zoning and relogging. -
You didn't think we came without backup!?

Quote:Power supply is 1000 Watts. Way more than I need, but that actually increases efficiency since it's not actually using 1000 Watts if the system isn't calling for it, but operating at peak efficiency at 40-60%.Zombie Man, what do you think of your i7? I'm in the market for a new MB/processor combo and I was looking at a low end i7 but was a little worried about the whole "multi-core not used" thing. Are programs smart enough to use a non-used (or less used) core or does everything try to cram through the same path? I'd be running the the i7-920 which is only 2.67GHz per core... Wasn't sure how worried I should be. (would be on a Win 7 OS)
Also, how large is your power supply?
While CoH doesn't use more than 2 threads (for now), if I have other programs running in the background, and they use the extra threads so I no longer have to shut everything down just to run CoH.

*Digital distribution is through NCSoft online store, but could also be through 3rd party vendors such as Steam. We players don't know if that will happen or not at this time. -
Quote:Oh, in that case... we players don't know. The minimum GPU requirements that Posi gave was a bit vague-ish and tentative, and so that more specific information is unknown.Zombie Man,
I appreciate the bullet points, but what I was curious about were the degrees of detail you'd get in various graphics cards, say for example a Nvidia 250GX to a 260, and a Raedon 5750 to a Raedon 5770. I think that'd help a lot of buyers sort out their budgets for this and more importantly what bang for their buck they'd be getting.

Quote:This helps explain it: paragonwiki.com/wiki/Known issues#Travel Power Status IconsIs it bugged? when right clicked in active buffs/toggles section it states that it provides +whatever mph run speed but in combat attributes it is much, much lower something like a pathetic +5mph which is supposed to be correct? I haven't bothered with it on live so i don't know if theres a number difference there.

Quote:CoH as it is currently does not access more than two threads. So, if you have an i7 or i5 that is double thread quad and can do 8 threads, CoH will still only use 2 threads. I have an i7 and can see through the task manager that only two threads are being used.Honest question.
Does a Quad core have any real advantage over a Dual core currently.
Obviously eventually more and more thing will support multiple cores, but currently don't most only support two at max?
However, it does allow CoH and other programs to run simultaneously without taking a hit on CoH performance.
Quote:I've done some asking in the Technical and Devs' corner forums, but I have to admit to still being somewhat in the dark over Ultra Mode and just what does what depending on the setting (presumably there will be varying degrees of quality sliders like in regular graphics mode) and the video card.- Reflections
- Real time, environmental reflections on all shiny surfaces including glass, metal, water.
- This includes shiny elements on a character costume, such as a goggles and armor.
- Reflections warp to the shape of the reflective surface. Glass windows will have imperfections which give realistic image distortions.
- Shadows
- Real time dynamic shadows that change with the time of day.
- Real time realistic shadows of everything in the environment, including all toons and critter that show a true projection of their shapes.
- Ambient Occlusion: Shadows are not one shade value -- they dynamically get lighter and fuzzier near light sources and they get darker in deeper corners and holes. Objects in the shadows get darker and harder to see.
- Water
- Angle-sensitive reflection and transparency: When viewed from on oblique angle, water surfaces are reflective; when viewed from above, the reflectivity diminishes and one can see into the water (at least at shallow depths).
- Shadows: Distorted shadows are cast onto the surface of the water and onto the floor of a water basin (at least at shallow depths).

Really, how many times before has I17 let you down?
WRONG.Quote:Positron tf halved
It's not being reduced from 20 missions to 10, it's being broken into 2 TFs and the content polished.
Which is new content for anyone who's never been able to make it to 50. It unlocks a new epic storyline. And even for long time Vets who have a 50 on one side, they don't on the other. This opens up the Soldiers to a lot of people who don't have a level 50 villain.Quote:Epics available at lvl 20.
Nope.Quote:Do you get the feeling only the gripes of a noob majority are being listened to? After all they do make up the majority, with most veterans leaving the game.
Umm... repeating yourself.Quote:Positon, a tf that can be completed in 3 hours by a team with at least 1 player who knows the ins and outs, halved.. Epics unlocked at lvl 20. Lvl 20 can be reached in a few hours on a farm map, so if people (new players) were that desperate to get one they could find themselves with 1 on the day of purchasing the game.
tl;dr version: Bwaa.. didn't get what *I* wanted. Which, in itself isn't a bad thing to voice your disappointment, but not when you justify your position with made-up 'statistics'.Quote:In the time I wasted on Jay's costume thread I think movable tails was umpteenth in the list of wants. Way behind the likes of..
Monstrous faces, that didn't all look like rabid hedgehogs (Yes, a bird's head could be a monstrous one).
A back pack - that did NOTHING!!! but was there to see, at the time dismissed because of animation problems - well there's several in game now, not to mention the purchasable one, plus wings, which all cope rather well.
Movable hair, or flowing hair. Not a favourite of mine but it was highly requested.
On top of this there has once again been a failure to allow villains access to the shadow shard or a lvl 50 contact with unlimited, non-timed missions. I understand we all got excited with the content for both heroes and villains to play together, but CoV has definitely suffered neglect over recent issues content-wise. 5 minutes in the MA could solve this problem, then we move it on to the live server...
Here's a missed opportunity: you not continuing. I was having fun shooting the fish in your barrel.Quote:I will continue this thread later, but for now I ask you to add to the list of missed opportunities. -
Quote:If you did that to me, I'd take the TOs, and then flag each of the 20 emails with /ignorespammer. This would put you on my ignore list so you couldn't do it again, and flag you for a look-see by the GMs. Hope you had fun playing CoH while you could.Could this be used as a form of denial-of-service attack? I buy 20 Training enhancements and send them to you; now you can't receive email until you delete them.
Not sure why anybody would want to do this, but somebody will come up with something....

Quote:OTOH, we had a Updater update a while back that caused these exact same problems with the updater updating itself failing because the updater was already in use by the updater.Speculation here but... An updater update could mean a EU/US server list merge.
There was something mentioned a while back that they would have to change the updater to allow that to happen.
And that update did not bring about any type of change at the level of a server merge. -
Quote:From here:What am I missing? I can't find any information on what exactly the "GR Item Pack" =IS=. What does it contain? Or do we know yet?
--NT
What's in that item pack, you ask? Well, a few nifty things like:
• Alpha- and Omega-themed auras
• Alpha and Omega themed costumed sets
• Four stance emotes
• The Shadowy Presence invisibility power

Quote:Because the Olympic Steering Committee forbids it.I will definitely be buying the Full version, not just the expansion (free month of game time and the item pack makes it a great value), but I don't understand why they are not offering a preorder for it?
Also, you can pre-ORDER the Complete Edition. Doing so guarantees you a space in Closed Beta. You can't, however, pre-PURCHASE the Complete Edition.

Quote:I don't know why exactly the weighting didn't extend to all wild drops but we got to here because:For Pool C, definitely. But Pool A?
What I would wonder is are we sure Pool A isn't weighted in the wild? Especially if it is found to be from ticket rolls; why work off separate drop tables?
1. Players whined horribly about getting useless recipes off the rare TF/Trial tables (I was one of them!).
2. So, Merit Vendors allowed for the buying of the specific recipe you want. Problem solved, right? No. Players wanted to roll on the cheap roll table and still got useless recipes and whined about it.
3. So, when Ticket Vendors were added, they decided to combine the Trial and TF tables (Pools C+D) and weight them for the Rare Merit Roll and the Gold Ticket Roll. And they decided tentatively, as an experiment to see what would happen if they allowed for the C+D recipes to drop from Bosses on the same, new weighted table.
4. At the same time, they created the Bronze and Silver Ticket Rolls for pools A and B. Problem with that was that Pool B was rather small. So, they added the Rare As to Pool B to create the Silver Ticket Roll and then they had to weight it lest the Rare As were no longer that rare.
5. Since the Gold and Silver rolls were weighted, they went ahead and weighted the Bronze roll, too.
6. Why didn't they then weight the wild drops of A and B? I don't know. Probably because players didn't whine about wild drops giving them useless recipes like they do when they have to spend Merits or Tickets on a roll.
This is all confirmed with Synapse. We had some public and private exchanges during a Closed Beta while this was all being put into place. This info has been in the Wiki since it first happened.
