    This.

Growing up, I always dreamed of having a library in my home with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves on every wall. There is something about old, heavy, leather-bound books that strikes a chord with me. Maybe because they look like cool magical tomes from D&D?

    I dunno.

But, yeah, I will miss printed books, even if it's better for the environment, cheaper, more portable, yadda yadda...

Now, if time resets, all development for Dick, Tim, Jason, Barabara, Damian, Stephanie, Cassandra, Helena, Bruce, Clark, Kara, Dinah, and most other chars will be lost almost indefinitely and while the most well known characters will survive all the derivatives have a slim chance of returning...and if they do, by the time they do their stories will be radically different, so much so that there is no point in reseting time to begin with...

This is why I think it would be wiser to just let the world advance in real time. This makes sense since a lot of people already accept the idea of Batman Beyond which if you tie in Batman, inc. this makes sense which various futures shown where Damian takes over which covers the lull between 2030 to 2050 when Terry takes over... This would allow for a transition of sorts.

I am of two minds here... Part of me agrees wholeheartedly, but who amoung us really wants to see Bruce grow old and die? Also, I am sure that no matter what happens, DC will keep Bruce around to maintain a copyright on him. Look at Brother Voodoo at Marvel. Horrible character, but they would bring him out every so often to maintain the copyright (and while I am not up on these things anymore, I hear he is the new Sorceror Supreme... Huh?)

But maybe it would end up being like a TV soap opera. Actors stay on for years in the same role, growing older and eventually being phased out in favour of the new cast.
  4. M*A*S*H remains one of my favourite shows of all time. My wife grew up in the Philippines and never really knew the show, so I borrowed my sister's DVD collection and we started watching it. Most shows that I loved as a kid kind of... suck... when viewed now, but I found M*A*S*H just as funny today as back then.

See, I kind of thought that. The core of the character is a normal man. I don't see them making him a superpowered being. But, if medical science in the real world ever advances to the state that we can augment ourselves to mildly superhuman levels, wouldn't he be stupid not to avail himself of that? If-- in the real world-- nanotechnology ever advances to a point where normal everyday people can have them heal wounds quickly, or whatever, wouldn't Bruce-- whose tech is beyond everyday-- have something better? Would he have cyberware, for example?
  6. Yeah, I considered mentioning Batman Beyond, but I am talking about the real world. In 40 or 50 years, real-time, what will Batman be like? Assuming they are still writing stories about the character. Will DC (or whatever company, if another takes over takes over) still be writing about Bruce Wayne? Or will they allow time to pass in the comic and move on to the next generation?

I am basically askiing about the stories about Bruce that will be told in the future, not the future within the comic universe.
  7. After watching the trailer for Superman/ Batman: Apocalypse, I read a comment about how Batman was "no longer cool" because he had basically become "Iron Man" with a gadget for everything and the ability to always take on villains much stronger than himself, instead of staying with the "street level" stories he was once involved in.

This got me thinking again about a discussion I had with a friend: where does Batman go from here? What will Batman be like in the future?

Batman is known for being a normal man, who defeats enemies through cunning, intelligence and determination (and yeah, gadgets). What happens in the next several decades when real life science allows us to dramatically improve ourselves, either through genetic modification, implants, or whatever you may deem likely to be developed?

Will Batman stay a normal man? Will Bruce Wayne of the year 2050 not only train himself extensively, but use his fortune to genetically improve himself? Will he have cyberware? Will his costume go from some crazy high-tech fabric that resembles tights to a full-blown suit of armour?

    Thoughts?

Edit: Because I didn't explain this as well as I could have, please see below...
  8. I liked 6, although many were good.

I hate to admit I haven't deciphered #2. I know Oedipus, but not sure what the code there translates to.
  9. I tried asking this through official channels, but never got an answer, so I thought I would ask here.

Without going into a whole long story, the basics are this: Last year, I knew I was getting rid of my credit card, but before I did, I paid for a full year for each of my two accounts. They are due to renew soon and I no longer have that credit card, which my account will try to access for an automatic renewal.

I am now using pre-paid credit cards for any online transactions I make. I wanted to add time in advance to my accounts, but do not see the option anywhere. The only option is to add time with a time card, but time cards are virtually non-existant around me (and not as good a value, since I believe they only let you add a month at a time).

So, as I see it, the only option I have is to wait for my account to try to renew, fail and then get cancelled. Then once it has expired, I can reactivate it. I just prefer not to do this, as I am not sure how this affect things like vet rewards and such.

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Is it confirmed?

I had forgotten just how long ago they had been discussing it.

That means that my stalker-- who I made specifically because I'd read that side-switching would arrive one day-- is about 4 years and 10 months old. I've been player her as "under cover" for years...

I tell you, having her arrive in Paragon City was an epic moment for me and was worth the purchase of GR, even ignoring all the Praetoria stuff.

    Wrong mission

One of my heroes took a tip mission today to save someone from Malta (IIRC). This guy was holed up in a Longbow base and I had to go help them out (Hero) or go finish him off myself (Vigilante). Given that this is one of my more Heroic (yes, deserving a capital H) characters, I chose the Hero option.

When I entered the mission, it was a Crey lab and I had been given explosives to set up. It was obviously the wrong mission. I figured "hey, I'm here anyway...." and did the mission. Turns out I was blowing up the place and probably killing some innocents. Gave me points toward going vigilante.

I should have just abandoned it, but I didn't really think about it. Now I feel like my character has been violated in a way, doiing something that she would never, ever do.

Anyone else getting these bugs? This is the second time it has happened to me that the tip and intro text do not match the actual mission.

    You think?

Even before I read anything, within a second of seeing it, I made the connection.

    Huh.
  13. Hmm. I just skimmed the patch notes again before posting... Guess my tired eyes skipped over that.

    Thanks for the response.
  14. I played through my 10 tips and got a morality mission with my main character. It was my understanding that she would receive a hero merit for maintaining her hero status, but she didn't get one.

Is this a bug? Did I misunderstand? Or does one have to do an initial morality mission in order to set one's status officially, with subsequent morality missions then providing the hero merits?
  15. Awesome. Some of those were great. I took a while to recognise 19 and number 5 was misnamed "Scorpio".

    9 was especially disturbing.
  16. Prior to GR, I made a name-holder character, to keep the name I wanted to use for someone I would make in Praetoria. So, the first night-- when all the unlocked/ locked slots were acting up, I deleted him to remake him. After creating the character the way I wanted, I tried to name him, only to find the name was taken.

"No way!" I thought, astounded that the name had been snatched up in the 30 seconds or so I'd needed to pick powers and load the saved costume. But it turned out nobody had taken the name. He just hadn't deleted.

Since that time, I have tried about 8 times to delete him. He disappears from the list only to reappear later. He is just a name, however. The actual character is not visible. I tried loading him just for fun to see what would happen and I can log into the game without a body and without any powers save Brawl and my vet powers. It was kind of cool for a few minutes, playing a floating Nemesis staff, but I want that slot back for a real character.

Anyone had anything similar to this?
  17. I thought everyone would be listing weird rules like my hero who draws his power from darkness and thus cannot use anything other than brawl when the sun is up (although he's ok in caves, etc, during the day.)
  18. Not only have I not received my 2 slots, but slots that I had previous to GR are now missing, along with the characters that occupied them. After logging out then back in, a few returned, but some are still missing.

That's an interesting scale if Batman is 12 and Superman is 15. Abilities must increase by a magnitude of 100 with each rank...

On the other hand plate armor stop blunt force pretty handily, but you can pierce right through it pretty easily with standard weaponry.

The bat suit in the comics use kevlar and to create more protection you need more layers... the more layers, the harder it is to move. You obviously don't want 100 layers of kevlar all over your body so if you can heavily layer yourself somewhere you want to direct the attack there.

The Nolan-suit on the other hand uses ceramics and you can't have multiple layers, but rather when you get shot the piece gets shattered and spreads the damage out. Also, because these plates are all the same all over you don't need to direct attention anywhere. You just don't want to take direct bullet fire or happen to get hit between the plates.

This means you don't want the symbol on the Nolan suit because where it would be is between plates and frankly he'd be sacrificing the stealth with no benefits.
Oh, I understand all that. I just wanted to have a Batman costume where you could see the bat symbol. I would have been just as happy with the costume being largely grey with the cape, gloves, boots and bat being black.
  23. How is this balanced? How do they handle the huge differences in power levels? Are all levels available and explained? Can one start as a Batman type or a Superman type? Or does one have to work one's way up?

I have only ever played the original Marvel RPG (didn't like it-- Aunt May could fall to earth from orbit and not die) and Villains and Vigilantes (liked it, but character creation was cumbersome).
  24. While the yellow oval makes sense and calls to mind the classic Batman look of days gone by, I never liked it. I did, however actually think once or twice that it would be good on Nolan's Batman, if only to let you see that he has a bat symbol.

Last time they took away the bat-briefs, they came back within what? A year?

I do kind of like that it has a bit of the Arkham Asylum look, which I think was a brilliant version of his costume and would have been great in theaters.
