Yeah... I really ould have liked a better send-off for the TNG crew. I didn't care for Nemesis at all. It seemed to me in a number of ways to be a weak clone of TWoK... I think it really was time to lay the series to rest for a while, but I hate that they couldn't have gone out on a higher note.

Hulu really needs to extend into Canada.
-
I am feeling remarkably sad about this... I'm not sure what to say other than to add to all the well-wishing for your future and to say thank you very much.
:'( -
Lol. I read that as "they offered the female..."
-
Ok, I asked about this earlier and got no response. I wasn't imahining having seen/ heard/ read somewhere that somehow the series would fall in line with comic cannon?

Quote:This is so what I am hoping for... I really, really want a good heroic superhero movie and there is probably no better character to pull it off than Superman. I want a brightly-coloured hero, doing good, making the right decisions, saving people, inspiring people and not killing the bad guys.To me Superman doesn't care about fitting or blending in with humans but inspiring them. Superman wants to show people that there's nothing wrong with doing the right thing.
As I mentioned in the Smallville thread, when they rebooted Star Trek, one of the things that Abrams said he liked was that it was a positive, hopefull view of the future and that he felt that was something that was needed in the real world at this time. I agree. With all the negativity, fear and hate in today's world, I am aching for a hero that stands for something more than vengeance and punishing evil doers in a sadistic manner. -
I may be having a false memory again... but I am quite sure I had seen/ heard/ read somewhere that the producers were saying that by season's end Smallville would (somehow, miraculously) be fully in line with comic cannon.
If that is true and I didn't just dream it, I have no idea how they'll pull it off.
Anyhow, after thinking back on this episode and the whole notion of the world needing heroes to step into the light and be a symbol of hope, I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly. When Star Trek was rebooted, they kept saying how they liked the idea of a positive, upbeat future and that it was what was needed in today's movies. I think that this is absolutely the right time for a good Superman movie, with a brightly coloured man of steel fighting against the forces of darkness and reminding us that heroic characters in the cinema still have a place beside the doom-n-gloom crew. -
Quote:I think you're looking at this wrong. Not what's being said in this thread.
Listen...I'm not saying Heroes is the best show at all.
All I'm saying is that...it's absurd to say that this is what you wanted heroes to be after only one episode. It's ridiculous to exaggerate and make things up about a show in order to make another show look better.
I don't think people are saying that this series (of which we have seen one episode) is a better series than Heroes. I think it's more that this episode is what we wanted to see in Heroes.
Nobody is saying that this is a better series. We can't, since we haven't seen the entire series. We're saying that this episode is what we always hoped for and were constantly denied with Heroes. -
Pass.
Seriously, I grow less excited for this with every new update. And Spidey is my favourite hero.
Sigh. -
Quote:I wonder who he got to make that jacket and how he explained his need for it.Here's the last scene of the episode for those who missed it, featuring the new look: linkage
Also, this is his attempt, I suppose, to "come out of the shadows" a bit and have a bit of colour. So why choose such a dark red? I would have liked a blue coat with a red symbol, something that's just a step away from his real suit. I mean, he's already seen (and seemed to like) the Superman suit, so why not move a little closer to that? -
Damn.
He contributed so much to my childhood...
I remember sitting in my mom's bedroom and the foot of her bed watching the Rockford Files with her....
A lot of these "X has passed away" thread make me go "aw, that's too bad", but this... This really makes me sad.
RIP -
Torn on this one. I mean really.
I like David E. Kelley. He's provided me with hours and hours of great TV. But come on, is he really the best bet for Wonder Woman?
I don't know how this can be done. You know they won't use her costume, so it may end up like Smallville where she'll be in regular clothes... And I am not sure if there is anyone who can play Diana in live action... -
Quote:Why is everyone so big on Glee? But it's opposite of Glee, which is why Hulu was invented since both shows are available on it.
I tried watching it. Sat through maybe two episodes and part of another, but the complete absence of any likeable characters drove me away. -
As a former Blockbuster employee, I'll point out that if someone wants to steal a DVD, they will, no matter what you do to it.

Lol, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Even when posting that, I knew I was expressing myself wrong, but I went ahead and posted anyway. I was thinking to myself "they'll know what I mean", but I was wrong. :P My geography isn't that bad, honest.
When I think of Africa, I personally visualise the plains, not the desert and I was kind of referring to that.
Yet further proof that posting when sleep-deprived makes one look like an idiot...
Anyhow, my silly remark overshadowed my other thoughts regarding the jump/ flight debate. Watch it again. Jumping would not allow him to catch the globe stop in mid air for a half-second, then continue upward. Nor would it allow him to suddenly alter his course. Unless this was an error of the FX crew, he flew. -
I don't get people saying Clark just jumped. He acknowledged that he felt like he was flying. Also, as he catches the globe, it stops for a fraction of a second before reversing direction. Then as he shoots up the side of the building, he is going fairly straight, only to have his trajectory change as he clears the rooftop.
He very clearly flew. At worst, it was 50% jump, 50% flight.
For me it was just the Chloe business that didn't make sense. Who did she give herself up to and why would they do that prisoner swap?
Also, why does Africa look like the Sahara desert? -
Not bad.
I always go to a fight in beachwear, myself. -
-
I thought it was ok. It felt a bit like filler, but it wasn't too bad.
What confused me was having Alice lose all her powers but in the fight with Ax Guy, she gets smacked pretty good and flies into the wall. A normal person should have been pretty close to dead after a hit like that, so I don't know if this means that her abilities are coming back or that she's just a Willpower tanker...
I was a bit surprised that she didn't have a topless scene. Seems like she usually does. -
That is Ollie from Kukla, Fran and Ollie.

"Looks like the Empire..."
*puts on glasses*
"... struck back."
Yeeeeaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
On the topic of whether there would still be Batman stories being printed in 100 years, I think there might be. After all, we are still making movies about Robin Hood... Batman, Superman et al are modern myths/ deities. Ther is no reason why they shouldn't still be around.
Now, while Batman has indeed rejected various enhancements, if the stories are being written in the future by someone for whom such technology is not only available but commonplace, I think it entirely possible that the stories would have to change to reflect that. As mentioned above, skill might play a bigger role and the emphasis might be on Bruce's intellect, skill and obsession even more than at present.
But I also wonder about what Syndrome said in The Incredibles: if, in the future, everyone is "super", would we need to have these stories being told anymore, or would we simply pump up the character's power levels to remain above the new human baseline? -
Quote:Yeah, but Spidey has aged, for example. When I read comics regularly many years ago, I had estimated one Marvel year to be about 4-point-something in real time. That had allowed Peter to go from high school to college, Franklin Richards to age, etc.I think you need a universe where progressing timeline has been accepted from day 1, like Judge Dredd. It's a tough fit in Marvel and DC where they constantly re-invent the "iconic" characters to keep them eternally young.
Now, none of that counts anymore.
