It's Friday!
Partyin' partyin'
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Everyone's looking forward to the weekend! -
Highlander remains one of my favourite films of all time. I also even enjoyed Endgame and generally enjoyed the series.
I can honestly say that I am more frightened than encouraged by talk of a reboot. -
I like the journey. When the very first character I ever made (Maiden Canada) was about to hit 50, it was kind of bitterweet. I was looking forward to it, but I kept thinking that her journey was coming to a close. fortunately, there is still always new stuff to do with her, which now includes the Incarnate stuff. My issue is that I like to experience new stuff. While I don't mind repeating things multiple times, I prefer not to do 2 or 3 missions over and over and over to try to advance. I want MC to explore the Incarnate stuff and grow stronger, but prefer not to continually repeat the same content.

Quote:I remember that show! I was torn between liking it and really disliking it... It had some interesting elements.... I was an extra in a children's program, a mini series called; "The Little Vampire". I was in a scene with him where I played his vampire servant/butler...
Anyhow, while he certainly wasn't the Alfred we know from the comics, I absolutley loved him in the role. Sad to hear of his passing.
Edit to add:
your scene at about 0:26 -
I can get behind this. I wanted to make a stone-skinned character the other day and gave up when I couldn't get a look I liked.

I've been thinking about this since GR came out, but never got around to posting until now.
I keep trying to find a balance between the Ultra Graphics mode and playability. My computer can't handle full-blown UG mode, but can do maybe 65 or 70%. There are some spots however (labs introduced in Praetoria, the new warehouse with the big conveyor belt room) where my computer slows down considerably and I have to turn everything down. Later, when I want to turn it back up, I have to experiment a bit, because I'll often forget exactly how I had everything set.
As things are now, we can save our preferences for various things, but not graphics. I would love to be able to load one profile for speed and then another for prettier graphics. If we could save 3 settings, that would be awesome, but I would really kill just to have 2 that would make it easier to toggle between modes. -
Well, I have a couple of Japanese characters and one wears a flag-inspired costume, so I hope it's not found to be offensive. I made the character over 2 years ago and would hate to delete her costume now.

Quote:I do.Ah, but do you remember when they were "Sugar Frosted Flakes", instead of just "Frosted Flakes"?
I miss the good old days where we could just eat stuff because we liked it, without worrying about every little thing in it. Sugar is almost a dirty word now.
I can't find any gum to chew anymore because nobody will use sugar and I refuse to buy any with Aspartame. -
Ha, nice! They have a character named Mako.
Hmm. JK Simmons as Tenzin? -
Quote:That's just it though... They are on another plane, a different level of existance. They are gods-- primal forces of the universe. In the movie, the implication is that they are space aliens with advanced tech. While the net result is the same, it is the tone and feel of the character that changes.Ummm do you read Thor? The "gods" are on another plain than ours. None of this is new and it is how Marvel does "gods".
If a certain task needs to be accomplished and Doctor Strange does it by casting a spell and summoning ancient mystical energies while Reed Richards does it by building some contraption, the end result is the same. The deed gets done, but you can't say that they're the same thing. -

Every time someone says something like this, or pulls out the "any sufficiently advanced technology..." line, I always think "hmm... so because fuschia is somewhat reddish, it must be red. There is no difference."
-
Quote:I knew, but I am certainly not "cool" with it.Dude. First of all, I doubt you will find anyone here that didn't already know that and secondly, aren't already cool with the explanation.
I expected this from the time that the movie was announced. Like Thor's appearance in the Hulk TV movie, I suspect that certain groups were not comfortable with the idea of presenting an actual deity other than the Christian one on screen.
As for what the difference is... Reducing them to aliens makes them less epic. They become a mundane-- albeit otherworldly-- species, instead of primal forces of the universe.
I don't remember them being described as aliens originally. I'm pretty sure that that's more in line with the Ultimate's view. Thor was the son of Gaia, after all. She most certainly is a mystical being, not an alien. -
Evidently.
Since the launch of the Incarnate stuff, I have maged to:
1. Unlock my alpha slot.
2. Slot Musculature boost.
3. Gain a Penumbra of Rularuu and 1 shard toward the Musculature Radial Boost.
At this rate, I will have the Muscular Paragon by the time other people have their Omega slot open. -
I would like to sign this 1000 times.
-
This won't be Blade Runner unless there is a theatrical release, a director's cut, an extended director's cut, and ultimate director's cut, an uber-ultimate director's cut, an ultra-extended uber-ultra director's cut and a definitive final supreme uber-ultimate extended remix director's cut.

Quote:Ok, I am not reading the whole thread before responding. In a year or two from now, at level 50, most people are likely going to have a better-than-blaster-tier-9 AoE attack, an AoE buff, and Praetorians for pets. They will also likely share other visible powers that we don't know about yet. (The Alpha slot and Interface slot are not relevant to this discussion, as they are not visible, or at least, Interface doesn't appear to be.)
In another thread, someone (leaving names out of this) said, regarding the Praetorian pets, "they're specific to an enemy faction and hard to sell as your OWN powers". The response was: "They aren't your powers. They are powers that you're taking (or being granted) from the Well of the Furies."
Last night, on one of Virtue's global channels, someone said something similar, that they didn't think they could pass the Lore slot off as their own abilities. The response was hostile and rude, and involved some swear words and laughing, but the important phrase used was: "You're not a special snowflake. You're an Incarnate."
I thought that was an interesting point. It does appear that, while there will be some minor differences, the end game system will make everyone more homogeneous. Back in the early beta of the game, it was changed from a free-form system to an AT system, because they found that everyone took the same powers. This led to a lack of diversity and "tank-mages". This thread isn't about tank-mages, but the diversity issue is what it is about, and I'm curious if people feel that Incarnates are showing that the devs think differently about the issue now. So, I have the following questions:
- How do you feel about the powers themselves based on the information that has been released so far, including in the sneak peaks and threads about them (here's a decent one, here's another, there are more), in terms of gameplay and how you feel about your characters having them (regardless of the lore)?
- How would you feel about your characters if everyone else had a significant number of extremely effective and visible powers that are similar or identical to yours? (If you are choosing to skip these powers, please instead say how you would feel about everyone else having the same or similar powers)
- How do you feel about the lore concept that Incarnate powers are not really yours, but granted by/stolen from an entity that has been stated to be insane (in the issue 20 overview)? How do you feel about your fellow heroes/villains being given/stealing these powers by/from that entity? If you plan to ignore the lore for your characters, go ahead and say so, but give your opinion on it too if you have one, please.
- Do you believe that character diversity is an important part of this game in general? If so, please say why, and from the information you have so far from the sneak-peaks or the threads about them, what impact do you feel the Incarnate system will have on that diversity, and the game as a whole? If not, why not?
Obviously feel free to expand on the topic in whatever ways you see fit.
Important note: this post is not just about the Lore slot. It's about Incarnates in general, and how everyone is going to share many extremely visible and powerful abilities at the end.
Basically, for me, it will be quite easy. Anything that doesn't make sense with my character concept will not be used. My tank (who is thus far my only incarnate and I only really expect to develop 1 other) will use anything that boosts her own abilities (increased damage, stamina, etc). AoE attacks are not likely to be used. Pets will absolutely not be used. Other stuff, we'll see.
As for others having the same abilities, I feel it's unfortunate, but I am not going to pay too much attention to it.
The backstory for the Incarnates and how the powers are granted is, IMO, pretty stupid. I dislike it. I am going to ignore it and say that my character is growing stronger on her own, unrelated to the Well.
I think it's unfortunate if the end game content will serve to make characters carbon copies of one-another, especially for a game that had previously allowed us to differentiate ourselves rather well. -
How about the Sentry?
Just kidding. I actually think he should be erased and forgotten. -
Quote:This. You know. A year ago I would have loved this episode. Even now I liked it but I hated it at the same time.
The reason I hated it is because the series is ending. When a series I enjoy is ending I would like to see them do episodes that push the mythos forward. A climactic build up getting better and bolder till they go out with a bang that makes everybody want to see another season, or a series of movies. It's not like taking a risk will get them cancelled. This was a filler episode. Filler episodes are fine but feel out of place when you are trying to tie things up...
...I don't want Smallville to do this. I want it to ramp up and explode. I know I'm probably not being realistic but episodes like Homecoming and Icarus are what I would like to see for the rest of the season.
They dropped the ball this season. While I liked the episode, this season should have seen a slow buildup to a mid-season cliffhanger, then an all-out action-oriented, mythos-building second half of the season.
As it is, they had the season start with "ooooohhhh.... the Darkness is coming!! Doooom!" followed by random stuff, throwaway episodes, filler and then the occasional episode where someone on staff said "oh, yeah... guys, we forgot about the Darkness! Let's do one episode about that before forgetting about it again for a 5 episodes!" -
Quote:Fair enough. Not so. DriveThruRPG works with the publishers. The publishers generally see it as a nice revenue stream - the cost to convert to PDF is cheap compared to printing costs, and it is great for those out-of-print books. They watermark the PDFs with who bought them, so they can catch people who put them out on filesharing sites.
White Wolf, in this case, doesn't publish Aberrant anymore, but sell the PDFs through DriveThru and collect profits.
It's the RPG equivalent of buying a book for a Kindle.
Checking the sample pages, though, the quality isn't that great. According to the comments, the pages are out of order, too. Still may check it out though, as there aren't many other options... -
Quote:Actually, after checking the link this morning, I am wondering how this is legal, as it seems like someone just photocopied the book and decided to sell it. Not sure how that is any different from any of the free downloadable stuff I found. Its legal if you pay for it. http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/produc...ucts_id=3&it=1
EDIT: Looks like Smersh beat me to it. -
Peter David's run on the Hulk is one of my favourites of all time and probably my favourite issue of any series was the bachelor party of Rick Jones.
